Position Description: SkillBridge Delivery Driver Externship (CDL Pathway)

Reports to: Assistant Delivery Manager

Position Objective:

Goldring Gulf is proud to offer a SkillBridge externship exclusively for transitioning service members seeking hands-on experience in logistics, delivery operations, and commercial driving. This learning-focused opportunity provides exposure to how our team executes daily delivery routes, maintains operational efficiency, and delivers exceptional service to our customers.

As a SkillBridge Extern in our Delivery Operations team, you’ll begin as a Delivery Helper, working alongside experienced drivers to learn the fundamentals of route execution, product handling, and customer service. This role is designed to prepare externs for advancement into a CDL Class A Driver position, with structured support and guidance toward obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Responsibilities Include:

Delivery Support & Route Execution

  • Assist drivers with loading and unloading products safely and efficiently
  • Ride along on local delivery routes to learn navigation, scheduling, and route flow
  • Support accurate and timely product delivery to customer locations
  • Learn proper use of delivery equipment (dollies, pallet jacks, lift gates, etc.)

Vehicle & Safety Operations

  • Assist with pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
  • Learn safety protocols, DOT compliance basics, and operational procedures
  • Observe safe driving techniques and best practices for local route delivery

Customer Interaction

  • Support drivers in providing professional, reliable service to customers
  • Learn communication techniques for delivery coordination and issue resolution
  • Observe how strong customer relationships are built through consistent service

CDL Preparation & Development

  • Participate in structured learning toward obtaining a CDL Class A license
  • Gain familiarity with commercial vehicle systems and driving fundamentals
  • Receive guidance on training programs, testing requirements, and certification steps

Team Collaboration & Operations Support

  • Work closely with drivers, dispatch, and warehouse teams
  • Support coordination efforts to ensure efficient daily deliveries
  • Participate in team meetings, route discussions, and safety briefings

Documentation & Workflow Support

  • Assist with delivery logs, inspection checklists, and basic reporting
  • Learn how delivery performance and compliance are tracked
  • Support maintaining organized workflows within the delivery team

Qualifications:

  • Must be a current transitioning Active Duty service member eligible for the SkillBridge Program
  • Strong interest in delivery operations, logistics, or commercial driving
  • Willingness to pursue and obtain a CDL Class A license
  • Ability to perform physical tasks (lifting, carrying, loading/unloading products)
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and operational guidelines
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Positive attitude and eagerness to learn hands-on skills

Description of Physical Tasks:

Keep shelves and vendors clean. Place product on hand truck or dolly (approximately 20 to 50 lbs per case). Pushes/pulls hand truck to machine or shelves and loads appropriate Gulf Distributing Company product. Climbing in and out of vehicle and proper lifting techniques.
