Position Summary
Under supervision of the University Hospitals Trust (UHAT) Access Controls Supervisor, responsibilities
include installing, repairing and maintaining facility access hardware, assisting in the development and
implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and working collaboratively and effectively as a facility
security team member.

Examples of Work Performed
- Installs, programs, tests, repairs, and services the electronic security solutions and equipment including:
magnetic locks, electric strikes, electrified handle sets, electric hinges, access card readers, motion
sensors, request to exit (REX) buttons, power supplies, wireless controllers/readers, door controllers,
cameras and low-voltage wiring.
- Installs, tests, repairs and services locks and door hardware including hinges, door openers/closers, handle
sets, cores, pins, latches and other door related hardware.
- Designs and develops master key systems
- Examines locking mechanisms and fabricates keys to replace lost or damaged keys.
- Inspects completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements, and compliance with
applicable building and safety codes and regulation
- Reads basic blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation
procedures; Interprets manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams, and repairs equipment, utilizing
knowledge of electronics and using standard test instruments and hand tools.
- Operates systems to demonstrate functionality, commission new systems, analyze performance and
identify malfunctions.
- Serves as the backup for other access controls technicians on the team.
- Consults with various technical support to resolve problems in system operation, maintenance, and
warranty work.
- Uses troubleshooting skills to isolate and fix problems in malfunctioning equipment or software.
- Works closely with the Access Controls Administrator and/or Access Controls Project Coordinator and
assists in the overall coordination of specific projects; makes recommendations regarding quality of work
and potential changes in scope, and identifies ways to continuously improve tenant satisfaction.
- Ability to work after hours and be on-call. Will be on call every 3rd week.
- Seeks technical guidance from more experience staff for difficult and unusual situations.
- Process security requests while utilizing appropriate grammar using the closed based facility maintenance
management system (1CALL.CLOUD).
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.
Knowledge and Skills
- Mechanically inclined and proven ability to troubleshoot problems and look for solutions.
- Must be a self-starter and work well without supervision.
- Solid mechanical and electrical aptitude (e.g. works with a variety of hand and power tools such as drill,
screwdriver, wire stripper, hacksaw, crimper) and ability to read blueprints and drawings.
- Frequent visits to job sites are required.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Solid organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Effectively navigates and utilizes the following operating systems: Windows 10.
- Strong Microsoft Outlook, Project, Excel, Word and Power Point skills
- Understanding of how a networked access controls system works.
- Must be detail oriented, highly organized, a team player and a quick learner with a positive attitude.

The position is an office-based position with regular visits to work sites on campus.
While performing the duties of this job, the colleague is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk or hear; uses
hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls. On occasion, the colleague may be required to climb and
work in high places, stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. Position may also require work in confined spaces
and exposure to different types of outdoor weather conditions. Risk of electrical shock and/or general hazards
found in a construction environment are present.
The colleague must occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift, push or pull up to 100
pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral
