If you like to work with numbers and people, this program is for you.

This program provides free tax preparation assistance to low and middle-income individuals of all ages, with special attention given to seniors (50+). Helping others sort through stacks of paperwork and lines of numbers is what the free AARP Tax-Aide Volunteer Program is all about.

LaVerne Gordon, Contra Costa County Tax-Aide Volunteer Coordinator, says, "The main requirement to be a counselor is that you have prepared your own taxes and are comfortable using a computer."

Interested volunteers are provided free training in federal and state tax law and must pass an IRS open-book certification test. Volunteers are also trained in using the IRS-provided software for preparing electronically filed tax returns.

Demand for this important and helpful service is increasing each year and in particular, more counselors are need to work at sites in Contra Costa County.

We can also use volunteers as technology assistants, public relation representatives, appointment schedulers and receptionists.
