Department Summary
The Department of Biological Sciences, one of four departments in the College of Science, has over 55 faculty, 3,000 undergraduate and 125 graduate students, and 30 postdoctoral fellows and research scientists. Our faculty is a community of scholars dedicated to research and teaching in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Physiology, Neuroscience, Cancer Biology, Plant Biology, and Organismal-Environment interactions. Position Overview
The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of North Texas (UNT), a Hispanic-Serving Institution and Carnegie R1 Research University, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the area of Cancer Biology. Preference will be given to applicants with research interests in the areas of physiology and molecular biology of cancer, or development and application of immunotherapy methods for cancer treatment. The faculty member will contribute to and collaborate with our ongoing basic and applied research programs within the Department, as well as and the College of Science’s Cancer and Health Sciences cluster-hire initiative. Exceptional candidates with significant experience at the Assistant Professor level, or equivalent, may be considered for hire at the Associate Professor level. The successful candidate should be capable of using modern research approaches, employing model systems, and have skills to work independently as well as in collaborative groups. They will be expected to obtain external funding to support a vibrant research program in their discipline, engage in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and effectively teach courses in their area of expertise. The faculty member is also expected to actively participate in relevant regional, national, and international research communities within their disciplines.
The successful candidate will interact with faculty, staff, and students within and between departments at UNT, including members from the Advanced Environmental Research Institute (AERI) and the BioDiscovery Institute (BDI). contributing to a strong tradition of interdisciplinary and collaborative research. This position builds on recent hires in neurobiology, epigenetics, endocrinology, genomics, cell biology, and computational biology. Additionally, the successful candidate can form collaborations with the Department of Biomedical Engineering, the College of Public Health, and the UNT Health Science Center. UNT also works with the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) to fund cancer-related projects.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will have earned a doctoral degree in Biological Sciences or related field, with postdoctoral experience in Cancer Biology or related field.
Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants with
1) Three-years postdoctoral or equivalent experience in Cancer Biology;
2) A proven record or potential to obtain external funding to support an active research program;
3) A growing record of scholarship and publication in higher tier journals appropriate to the applicant’s field of study; and
4) A record demonstrating the potential for excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching.
