We invite Gastroenterologists to discover all that we can do when we bring healing hearts, inquisitive minds and visionaries together in our Gastroenterology & Hepatology team at Atrium Health - Charlotte, NC.

Atrium Health Gastroenterology is seeking a GI Motility Faculty Physician, affiliated with the new Atrium Health - Wake Forest University medical school opening in Charlotte in 2025. This is an opportunity to be part of one of few hybrid motility programs in the country. Atrium Health and Wake Forest University are also a training program as part of the clinical training for the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society.

Qualifications:

  • MD/DO Degree and ACGME US internal medicine internship and residency
  • Completed 3-year ACGME US gastroenterology/hepatology fellowship
  • Provide case logs for core and non-core endoscopic procedures (2 years), including motility studies (Endoflip, Bravo pH, Dilations, Gastric interrogations for stimulators if performed, esophageal and anorectal manometry, Ph study readings)
  • Valid American Board Certification in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology (or board eligible)
  • Valid unrestricted North Carolina Medical License or eligible to apply (must have license prior to credentialing)
  • Valid DEA licensure
  • Must maintain CME to meet institutional and state licensing requirements
  • Excellent clinical knowledge and experience to provide safe and quality care to patients and meet institutional standards of care
  • Current ACLS and BLS certification required
  • Previous experience reading motility studies and overseeing studies performed.

Overview of the role:

  • Established practice in Charlotte City Center at Morehead Medical Plaza (MMP); >30 physicians and 35 APPs in group
  • Full-time, faculty role (Associate/Assistant Professor/Professor level) providing direct inpatient and outpatient care to GI patients at MMP clinics
    • Appointment is subject to final Dean's office approval
  • Weekly, holiday, and weekend call proportionate to other GI providers
  • Reading motility studies including those performed by hospital ancillary staff
  • Provide outpatient clinical and endoscopic services, as well as rounding/teaching on inpatients at MMP clinics
  • Hydrogen breath test interpretation to patients who require these services
  • The motility program currently provides evaluation of:
    • Esophageal and gastric motility
    • pH-impedance and other pH reflux testing
    • Bravo pH
    • FLIP technology for pyloric therapies and esophageal disorders
    • Anorectal physiology testing
  • Electrogastrography and gastric stimulator interrogation
