JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Consultant assists others with writing related issues; developmental course writing to professional writing for publication. This position conducts orientation sessions and workshops throughout the year.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists students, faculty and staff with writing related issues at all stages of the writing process from developmental course writing to professional writing for publication.
  • Completes documentation and corresponds with instructors regarding student visits to the Writing Center.
  • Aids with the technology resources in the Writing Center.
  • Presents classroom Writing Center orientation sessions.
  • Conducts Writing Center workshops for students and faculty across the disciplines.
  • Facilitates Teacher Talk discussions for faculty across the disciplines.
  • Assists faculty across the disciplines with writing assignment design.
  • Leads scholarly discussions at Annual Writing Center Retreat.
  • Attend work activities or programs as scheduled or assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Understanding of teaching and learning methodologies.
  • Ability to utilize tutorial software and Internet resources. Proficient computer skills with the ability to learn new software.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Excellent communication skills including active listening.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.
  • Ability to demonstrate cooperation and professionalism while maintaining patience and understanding in stressful situations.
  • Ability to effectively work and interact with various cultures and ethnicities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's Degree, preferably in English.
  • One year of teaching experience, preferably in composition, or other relevant work experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel between campuses for meetings or position responsibilities.
  • Background Check required.
