Finance - Switchboard Operator
Department: Finance - Switchboard Operator
Status Hours: Part-time, 39 hours bi-weekly
Shift: Second shift
Includes: Every other weekend & some holidays
Job Description:
Fulton County Health Center is seeking a dedicated and organized Switchboard Operator to join our team on 2nd shift. This critical role serves as the central communication hub for the hospital, supporting emergency department operations, hospital communications, and patient flow with professionalism and compassion.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the central communication center for the hospital.
  • Monitor hospital-wide alarms and emergency codes.
  • Manage incoming phone calls, pages, and Vocera communications efficiently.
  • Direct callers to appropriate departments, physicians, or patient rooms.
  • Admit patients into Meditech, ensuring accurate identification and record connection.
  • Obtain electronic signatures for treatment consents.
  • Communicate patient needs clearly with ED staff, techs, and volunteers.
  • Support cashier functions when needed (payments, receipts, change).
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient, staff, and visitor information.
  • Prepare patient folders and miscellaneous finance department items (e.g., ticket distribution).
  • Monitor access logs (gift shop key, money bag, phone usage).
  • Perform quarterly phone logs for finance cost reporting.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and provide exceptional customer service at all times.
  • Adapt to staffing and scheduling needs as required.
  • Handle occasional exposure to communicable disease and hospital-related odors.

Requirements
  • Education: High School diploma or GED required. Associate's degree in a medical field preferred.
  • Certifications: Basic Emergency Care training required. CPR Certification preferred.
  • Must be able to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work well under stress.
  • Comfortable interacting with patients, families, and healthcare staff in a high-paced environment.
  • Experience: Prior clerical and computer experience strongly preferred. Switchboard or phone-based customer service experience highly desirable. Familiarity with Meditech, OnBase, Microsoft Word, Excel, and email systems preferred. Medical terminology knowledge a plus.
