Natural Gas Utility Engineer

Position Summary

Our teams support major natural gas utilities across the region with high-quality engineering, design, and project execution. We are seeking an experienced Natural Gas Utility Engineer to lead and support the design of natural gas distribution projects. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys technical problem-solving, client interaction, and working in a collaborative consulting environment. The Distribution Natural Gas Utility Engineer will join our Cherry Hill, NJ office; however, the candidate could possibly work from our Wall or Warren offices.

Responsibilities
  • Develop engineering designs, construction drawings, and technical specifications for natural gas distribution systems (mains, services, regulator stations, etc.).
  • Load analysis, and pressure/flow calculations.
  • Prepare design packages, cost estimates, material lists, and project documentation.
  • Coordinate with utility clients, permitting agencies, municipalities, and internal project teams.
  • Conduct field investigations, site assessments, and constructability reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including DOT 49 CFR Part 192 and utility standards.
  • Support project management activities such as scheduling, budgeting, and client communication.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in natural gas distribution engineering or utility infrastructure design.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D (required).
  • Excellent communication, technical writing, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong understanding of natural gas codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
