Vertical Risk Manager, Upmarket Acquisitions - Card Risk

Capital One is seeking a highly motivated risk management professional with excellent organizational, problem solving, and communication skills to join the Card Risk Office supporting Upmarket Acquisitions.

Vertical risk managers (VRMs) operate in the first line of defense, applying risk management, analytics, and judgment to ensure that we remain well managed and avoid unnecessary risk. This position offers high-level exposure across the Upmarket business segment and provides the opportunity to create and implement innovative solutions for identifying and mitigating potential risks. Key responsibilities include enhancing our risk management processes and risk profile and driving key project and program delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to business stakeholders, collaborating on key initiatives, issue resolution, process improvement, control testing, and risk assessments

  • Cultivate and leverage strong relationships with stakeholders to gain a deep understanding of business strategies, products, and associated risk profiles

  • Proactively identify and escalate risk gaps, issues, emerging risks, and areas of regulatory focus

  • Provide expert guidance on first line risk management practices, including support for assessments and issues

  • Identify opportunities for continual enhancement of the risk program, implementing improvements based on industry best practices and Capital One's strategic risk direction

  • Effectively communicate complex information to diverse audiences and manage competing priorities to successfully meet deadlines

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma

  • At least 4 years of Compliance, Legal, Audit, or first or second line Risk Management experience

  • At least 3 years of Project or Process Management experience

  • At least 3 years of experience supporting, partnering and interacting with internal business

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degre
  • 5+ years of Project Management experience leading cross functional projects and programs in Risk
  • 5+ years of Compliance, Legal, Audit, or first or second line Risk Management experience
  • 3+ years of experience in reporting and analyzing data
  • Professional certifications within risk management and/or assurance: Certified Risk Management Professional, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) or Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM)

  • PMP, Lean, Agile or Six Sigma certification

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $151,900 - $173,400 for Risk Manager


Richmond, VA: $138,100 - $157,700 for Risk Manager










Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
