What is a professional realtor?

Professional Realtors are licensed real estate agents who are members of the National Association of Realtors (NAR) and adhere to its strict code of ethics. They assist clients with buying, selling, and renting properties while providing expert advice on market trends, pricing, negotiations, and legal requirements. Realtors are trained to guide clients through every step of the real estate transaction, ensuring a smooth and transparent process. Their membership in NAR sets them apart from other real estate agents by emphasizing professionalism and ethical standards.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a professional realtor?

To thrive as a Professional Realtor, you need a strong understanding of local real estate markets, property valuation, and sales strategies, along with a valid real estate license. Familiarity with Multiple Listing Services (MLS), contract management software, and digital marketing tools is typically required. Outstanding interpersonal skills, negotiation abilities, and integrity help realtors build trust and close deals effectively. These competencies are essential for ensuring client satisfaction, navigating complex transactions, and achieving sales success in a competitive industry.

What are some common challenges professional realtors face when managing multiple clients and listings simultaneously?

Professional Realtors often juggle several clients and property listings at once, which can make time management and organization crucial. Balancing client expectations, coordinating showings, and keeping up with market changes can be demanding. Effective use of customer relationship management (CRM) tools, clear communication, and setting boundaries around availability can help reduce stress and increase productivity in this fast-paced environment.

  • Own the vision for a unified, data-driven Rentals experience that delivers value to both Consumers (renters) and Partners (landlords, property managers, and content providers).
  • Champion bold, forward-looking strategies that incorporate consumer insights, partner needs, competitive intelligence, and emerging technologies (including AI/ML) to differentiate Realtor.com in the Rentals market.
  • Serve as the Rentals business line owner with full accountability for revenue, operating margin, and resource allocation.
  • Partner with Finance to set ambitious but achievable revenue targets, budgets, and forecasts, and deliver against them.
  • Balance strategic investments with near-term execution to maximize long-term value creation.
Team Development and Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing team of product managers focused on Rentals.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and customer obsession, empowering your team to think big and deliver measurable impact.
  • Align closely with Engineering, Marketing, Sales, and Consumer Experience to ensure seamless execution of Rentals strategies.
  • Drive alignment across internal teams and external partnerships (including our Zillow Rentals partnership) to maximize Consumer reach and Partner value.
Consumer & Partner Experience Ownership
  • Ensure Realtor.com delivers a best-in-class Consumer experience for renters, while also building high-value tools and workflows for Partners.
  • Be the advocate for both sides of the marketplace, ensuring platform design reflects their needs and drives meaningful outcomes.
Operational & Market Excellence
  • Establish and monitor KPIs that track Rentals performance (e.g., consumer engagement, lead submission rates, partner satisfaction, revenue efficiency).
  • Use analytics and experimentation to guide prioritization, measure impact, and continuously improve results.
  • Build strong industry partnerships to expand Rentals content, inventory, and distribution.
Stakeholder Management & Communication
  • Regularly communicate strategy, progress, and impact to executive leadership.
  • Build consensus and influence across functions, ensuring Rentals remains a top growth engine for Realtor.com.
What You’ll Bring
  • 15+ years of experience in product management, business operations, or marketplace leadership, including significant product leadership.
  • Proven P&L ownership experience within a consumer marketplace, ideally in residential real estate, rentals, or adjacent industries.
  • Strong track record of building and scaling Consumer and Partner-facing products across web and mobile platforms.
  • Exceptional ability to develop and drive cohesive strategies that balance consumer experience, partner value, and revenue growth.
  • Expertise in analytics, metrics-driven decision making, and financial management.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills, with experience managing complex partnerships.
  • High empathy for both Consumers and Partners, combined with a bold, innovative mindset.
  • MBA or equivalent experience preferred.
