What is a professional mascot?

A Professional Mascot is a performer who wears a costume to represent a team, company, or brand at events, games, and promotions. Their role involves entertaining crowds, engaging with fans, and enhancing the overall experience through energetic performances and interactions. Mascots must have strong physical endurance, enthusiasm, and the ability to communicate non-verbally. Many work for sports teams, theme parks, or businesses to create memorable and positive experiences.

What does a professional mascot do?

A typical day for a Professional Mascot includes preparing and donning the mascot costume, rehearsing or reviewing scheduled routines, and performing at events such as sports games, community appearances, or promotional activities. You’ll interact with fans, participate in photo opportunities, and collaborate with event staff or marketing teams to create memorable experiences. Mascots often work behind the scenes to coordinate logistics and ensure the safety of their act, sometimes performing in outdoor or high-energy environments for extended periods. Flexibility is key, as schedules often include evenings, weekends, or travel. This dynamic role offers a unique way to engage with the public while representing a brand or team in a highly visible way.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the professional mascot position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Professional Mascot, you need excellent physical stamina, improvisational abilities, and performance skills, often supported by experience in acting, dance, or athletics. Familiarity with costume maintenance, basic safety protocols, and audio/visual cues is typically necessary, though formal certifications are rare. Outstanding interpersonal skills, crowd engagement, and a positive attitude help mascots connect with audiences and team members. These skills are essential for delivering entertaining performances safely while creating memorable interactions that promote brand or team loyalty.

How do you become a professional mascot?

To become a professional mascot, individuals typically need to develop performance skills, such as acting and physicality, and often gain experience through auditions or training programs. Building a portfolio, understanding costume maintenance, and demonstrating enthusiasm are important for securing mascot roles, which may require flexible scheduling and physical stamina.

How much do professional mascots get paid?

Professional mascots typically earn between $20,000 and $70,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and the organization. Many mascots are paid hourly or per event, with some earning additional income through merchandise sales or appearances.

Job description

Are you energetic, outgoing, and love making people smile? Join our team as the iconic Chick-fil-A Cow! We’re looking for a dynamic individual to take on the role of Mascot Performer - helping us create remarkable and joyful experiences for guests of all ages at in-store events and community engagements. This role may also schedule you to serve as a Cow Handler for certain appearances.

What You’ll Do:

As the Cow (Mascot):

  • Step into character as the Chick-fil-A Cow and bring energy, fun, and warmth to every appearance.
  • Pose for photos, dance, wave, high-five, and help create unforgettable moments for kids and adults alike.
  • Stay in character with big gestures, enthusiasm, and charm - no moo-ing necessary!
  • Participate in events in the restaurant and in the community by creating remarkable experiences for all you come into contact with. Follow event scripts or directions when required.
  • Assist in setup and breakdown of events as needed.

As the Handler:

  • Serve as the Cow’s eyes, ears, voice, and guide - helping them navigate safely.
  • Keep the Cow safe by managing crowds, watching for hazards, and guiding them away from any obstacles.
  • Assist with costume setup, water breaks, and transitions during events.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Age 16+ with reliable transportation.
  • Comfortable wearing an enclosed costume for extended periods. This includes moving, walking, interacting with guests, and maintaining visibility and mobility while wearing the costume. Costume fit and comfort will be evaluated during the selection process.
  • Good physical stamina, coordination, and non-verbal communication skills.
  • A positive attitude and a genuine love for making people smile.
  • Flexible scheduling to accommodate events, including weekends and evenings.
  • Experience in performance, dance, theater, or mascot work is a plus!
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Care for the Cow costume - keeping it clean, stored properly, and event-ready.
  • Always represent Chick-fil-A with professionalism, hospitality, and a big (invisible) Cow smile.

Why It’s Awesome:

So if you’re looking to step into a fun-filled position where you can be yourself while encouraging people to eat more chicken, we’d love to meet you.
