Job description
Required Submissions: Please provide a cover letter and resume to resume@NAFSCE.org. Applicants who apply without providing a cover letter will not be considered.
Location: Metro Washington D.C. preferred, all national locations considered with office travel expectations.
About the Organization:
The National Association for Family, School and Community Engagement (NAFSCE) was established in September 2014 as a professional membership association with the mission of advancing high-impact policies, practices and research in family, school and community engagement to promote optimal child development, student achievement, and youth outcomes. It envisions a world where family and community engagement is universally practiced as an essential strategy for improving learning, strengthening education and advancing equity.
Reports to:
NAFSCE’s Executive Director and works collaboratively with NAFSCE’s Directors and Consultants.
Role:
This position will focus on advancing systemic family and community engagement through developing and implementing initiatives, services and resources that build the capacity of the field. This includes leading the design, development, launch, and continuous improvement of NAFSCE’s micro-credentialing initiative aligned with NAFSCE’s Family Engagement Core Competencies; overseeing the development and implementation of training academies and modules; directing the National Assembly for Family Engagement in Education; overseeing NAFSCE’s virtual programming including its webinar series and communities of practice (its own and through collaboration with partners); overseeing NAFSCE member services, and collaborating with other NAFSCE Directors in overseeing Statewide Family Engagement Center (SFEC) contracted services. This position will also conduct virtual and in-person presentations nationally in promoting NAFSCE’s work. The Director’s commitment to teamwork, leadership, and support of an inclusive, collaborative and results-oriented culture will reinforce the core values of the association, and the sustained growth of NAFSCE.
Duties:
Professional learning and credentialing
- Lead the design, development, launch, and continuous improvement of NAFSCE’s capacity building programs, including a micro-credentialing initiative aligned with the Family Engagement Core Competencies. This includes establishing the credential structure and requirements; selecting and managing appropriate online learning, assessment, and digital badging platforms; developing systems for participant enrollment, evidence submission, assessment, feedback, credential issuance, and data tracking; and coordinating content experts, assessors, technology partners, and other contributors.
- Support ongoing refinement, implementation, and evaluation of the Reframing Academy, Family Math Core Competencies Academy, and other academies to be developed.
National Assembly and virtual learning
- Direct NAFSCE’s National Assembly for Family Engagement annual conference, managing all elements of Assembly learning programs, presentations, and participants. In collaboration with the Executive Director, direct staff-wide contributions, contractors, our Board, and other volunteers who will support the Assembly.
- Oversee the development of annual virtual programs for members and the broader field, including webinars, communities of practice, network meetings and other virtual learning programs as determined through both direct and contracted (often SFEC) services.
- In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Communications and Membership, oversee professional learning opportunities for members, including development, enhancement and implementation of existing programs, and creation of new offerings, resulting in effective membership recruitment and retention.
Technical assistance and contracted services
- Provide technical assistance as required (in collaboration with the Research Department and/or Center for Family Math) to SEAs, SFECs or school districts engaged by NAFSCE, which may include developing and/or conducting training programs, technical assistance sessions, reviewing and commenting on state-developed documents, participation in calls and/or meetings with state teams, or writing briefs or summaries of state activities.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote fee-for-service technical assistance services and resources to states and school districts with other NAFSCE Directors.
- Oversee and/or manage SFEC contracts in collaboration with other NAFSCE Directors, coordinating services to complete deliverables, such as:
● Liaising with SFEC lead grantee organizations as a sub-contractor;
● Coordinating SFEC technical assistance (TA), and providing TA, as needed;
● Establishing, convening, and/or supporting SFEC advisory councils;
● Planning, carrying out, and/or presenting at virtual, regional, and statewide convenings;
● Coordinating SFEC NAFSCE memberships and member services in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Communications and Membership who is responsible for managing them.
● Coordinating other SFEC deliverables, including webinars, Communities of Practice, and website resources.
- Coordinate, co-manage and co-host with the National Center for Families Learning a national Statewide Family Engagement Center Professional Learning Network, with monthly virtual convenings and an online learning community.
Team and organizational leadership
- Establish quality-assurance and evaluation systems for NAFSCE’s professional-learning offerings, using participant data, feedback, completion patterns, and evidence of learning to guide continuous improvement.
- Co-supervise the Manager of Programs and Operations (with the Director of Finance and Operations), with an evolution to a full-time dedicated Manager of Programs solely supervised by this position to support the activities within this scope of work.
- Recommend revision and/or enhancement of NAFSCE’s web content regarding learning and capacity building services directly through NAFSCE and in collaboration with its partners.
- Coordinate staff in developing and conducting NAFSCE presentations for audiences such as: national and state education conferences, SEA’s, state coalitions, and project partners.
- Participate in ongoing strategic conversations with the Executive Director and NAFSCE Directors focused on organizational growth, challenges, and sustained impact.
- Additional or adjusted responsibilities, as necessary, through the evolution of NAFSCE, and through ongoing conversations with the Executive Director.
- Travel, as necessary, and typically a minimum of monthly, with approval of the Executive Director, for presentations, select meetings and to visit NAFSCE’s office.
Qualifications:
● Demonstrated experience designing and administering online and/or in-person, competency-based professional learning, micro-credentials, certificates, or similar credentialing programs, including experience selecting and managing learning platforms, assessment systems, and digital credentialing tools.
● Minimum of at least seven-years of experience in a program management position working for education or human service organizations delivering early childhood and K-12 programming.

● Proficiency utilizing Google Workspace and Microsoft Office software programs.
● Other appropriate combinations of academic and work experience.
