Job description

Job purpose:

Responsibilities include processes typical to product verification in a machining and assembly environment; measurement of product against design specifications provided on inspection plans and product drawing information using sophisticated and basic measurement devices. Verifying received components meet requirements prior to use. Supporting the calibration process. Assisting Quality Engineering establish inspection plans. Documenting and electronically storing quality records in appropriate network locations. Basic maintenance of inspection equipment. Assisting with the non-conforming material process. Supporting manufacturing personnel with their understanding of measurement techniques. Other items as required.

Duties and responsibilities

• A skilled position, the Quality Technician is expected to understand the following after investing effort in the role. Specific knowledge will be trained;

• Perform Quality Technician related tasks in a machining and assembly environment in support of meeting the company quality objectives and Manufacturing Operations delivery commitments.

• Inspect incoming materials, manufactured components, and finished goods for conformance to internal and/or Customer requirements following AQL and some 100% inspection, utilizing SPC tools. Generation of Discrepant Material Reports when necessary.

• Understand flow-down requirements from Customers, how they are communicated to our outside suppliers, how conformity to those requirements are verified during Receiving Inspection, and how conformity to requirements are verified on processes performed in house.

• Interface with Purchasing, Engineering and Suppliers in support of discrepant material resolution.

• Generate and store computer-based quality related records including the archiving of component and material certifications, certificates of conformance, and First Article Inspection Reports.

• Assist with the preparation of First Article Inspection Reports per AS9102. Understand or learn understanding of the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP). • Provide shop floor support to resolve daily quality related product and process issues. Mentor and train manufacturing personnel in proper measurement techniques.

• Review quality documentation to ensure product conformance. Recommend improvement and correction to Inspection Plans for supplied and manufactured materials to ensure compliance to Customer drawing and PO requirements.

• Control limited life materials such as adhesives to ensure compliance with expiration dates.

• Operate CMM and Keyence measurement systems. Train other QA inspectors and technicians in their operation. Attend training for programming these devices.

• Support conformance to the Quality Management System with respect to quality inspection needs.

• Support Manufacturing Operations delivery commitments to Customers, understanding production timing and prioritization sequencing of work tasks. Strive to support Operations while assuring conformity to product requirements.

• Maintain inspection equipment calibrations utilizing calibration records software. Schedule outside services calibration for items not calibrated in house. Ensure verification equipment is working properly. • Obtain Designated Quality Representative Certification, acting on behalf of the certifying Customer as their agent when certifying their product.

• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in technical field or equivalent technical work experience in a manufacturing environment.

• 2-5 years of experience manufacturing environment that includes machining and assembly.

• Knowledge of computer software programs including Microsoft Office (Word/ Excel / PowerPoint)

• Ability to read and understand product drawings that include GD&T requirements.

• Experience with sophisticated quality inspection equipment such as Coordinate Measurement Machines, Keyence, laser scanners, and experience with pin gauges, micrometers, calipers, etc.

• Experience with layout / surface plate inspection techniques.

• Knowledge of statistical sampling plans.

• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to interact well with all levels of personnel throughout the organization as well as suppliers and customers.

• Experience working in a regulated industry with certification to AS9100 or ISO9000.

• Ability to organize thoughts and prioritize work tasks based on the needs of the operation.

• Be able to manage multiple tasks and meet multiple deadlines simultaneously and have a strong sense of urgency.

• Be self-motivated, focused, and detail oriented with a positive attitude. Working conditions

• May be exposed to industrial oils, toner, coolants, solvents, lubricants, adhesive and other chemicals. NOTE: All safety precautions will be used.

• Plant wide climate control and air conditioning to a steady temperature.

• Could work in areas with noise. NOTE: Ear protection available. Physical requirements

• Could require intermittent and long periods of sitting and/or standing.

• Some work may be repetitive.

• Periodic lifting of materials not to exceed 50 pounds.
