Job description

SLT is a well-established, yet rapidly expanding boutique fitness company seeking a Studio Manager to join our operations team. This role will be responsible for driving the performance & operations of our Rockville, MD studio. With a focus on building brand awareness in the market, optimizing studio class schedules, serving as a lead instructor on schedule, driving utilization through new client conversion and increasing client frequency, and leading an efficient studio operation, this role provides a tremendous opportunity to grow SLT at the studio level.


A strong fit for this role should have a passion for fitness, strong leadership skills, and the ability to engage clients and build and grow a community in and around the studio.


Class Quota:

Work to maintain an optimal teaching presence while serving as a resource for the instructor team:

  • Maintaining a class quota of up to 13 classes instructed per week, with flexibility to exceed as needed
  • Serving as a reference point for the instructor team on a regular basis, looking for opportunities to
    • support newer instructors with guidance and mentorship
    • model SLT standards for tenured instructors
    • step in and cover classes when the need arises


Schedule Optimization:

Work to make sure we are offering the optimal class types and times, with the optimal instructor allocation:

  • Ensuring that all classes happen on time and on schedule, including managing instructor subs in collaboration with T&D
  • Analyzing class performances on a regular basis, looking for opportunities to
    • optimize instructor allocations
    • optimize class types (Essentials, Hardcore, etc.)

Driving Utilization & Revenue:

Work to fill classes & increase sales through execution of SLT's sales strategy including:

  • Driving new client conversion through strategic first-timer engagement tactics.
  • Targeted email and phone outreach to existing clients and new leads.
  • Identifying opportunities to generate new leads and potential client pipelines, such as creating special curated classes or in-studio events that target specific customer segments, and partnerships with local businesses and community groups that align well with our brand and help drive attendance.
  • Ensuring proper execution of marketing campaigns, including setting up promotional signage, updating message boards, enrolling client services team members, and ensuring instructor announcements are in place and executed effectively.


Operational Efficiency:

  • Staff Management
    • Recruiting, onboarding, and managing front desk staff, ensuring that customer service team members are well-trained and effectively driving in studio sales and managing daily operations
    • You'll assist in the performance management of instructor operations in collaboration with T&D. This will include monitoring punctuality, professionalism, client interaction, and how well they're adhering to studio marketing and sales responsibilities.
    • As the key point of contact for communication between marketing, operations, and instructors, you will need to relay information about upcoming promotions, schedule changes, or internal rollouts to your in studio teams
  • Facilities Management
    • Ensure the studio is well-maintained, and that all maintenance issues are addressed in a timely manner
    • Manage upkeep and maintenance of machines
  • Customer Service & Client Management
    • This includes handling client inquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring that clients feel heard and valued in a timely and professional manner.
    • Drive client retention through personalized follow-ups, milestone recognition, and renewed focus on rewarding loyalty.


Qualifications:

  • Management experience, preferably in the fitness, wellness or retail industry a plus
  • Previous group fitness experience preferred
  • Self-starter with strong managerial and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task and think and react quickly
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Critical thinking skills are a must
  • Ability to work flexible, non-traditional hours, including weekends and holidays
