Job description

Title: Part-Time Training Instructor
Type: CTH (Permanent)
Pay Rate: $21-24/hour (DOE)
Hours: Part-Time; 3-4 Days per week.
Location: Gaithersburg, MD & Silver Spring, MD (Candidate will travel between locations as needed)
The Instructor is responsible for the development and facilitation of classes, presentations and training curriculum for TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) recipients participating in a work requirement program.
The incumbent will be expected to:

  • Facilitate workshops and classes as scheduled, Monday – Friday. Workshops may include, but are not limited to: Registration, Orientation and Testing, Customer Service, Budgeting, Resume Building
  • Provide group lessons and one on one tutoring for GED Preparation
  • Subjects include math, language, science and social studies
  • Ensure timely submission of quality resumes for each program participant, according to SOP
  • Maintain cleanliness of computer lab and classrooms daily and monitor operation of computer equipment
  • Follow-up with “no show” participants and document outcome
  • Communicate with Case Managers regarding participant progress, especially supportive services needed or barriers that may hinder successful completion disclosed during class or one-on-one counseling
  • Ensure all participants complete sign-in/out sheet daily and sign attendance timesheets every Friday
  • Ensure all participants’ weekly attendance is forwarded to Case Managers by established timeline
  • Complete and submit weekly attendance reports as scheduled
  • Observe the operations manual/work instructions and service provider guidelines
  • Create and maintain a positive atmosphere of urgency, ownership, learn-by-doing, and motivation
  • Sustain positive relations with co-workers and internal/external customers
  • Work closely and effectively with case managers and other workshop instructors
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned by the supervisor, office manager or project director

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and general office equipment: Printer, Scanner, Copier, Fax machine, Projector
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software: MS Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
  • Experience teaching and coaching in a non-traditional environment
  • Case management experience a plus
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
