Job description


The position is responsible for develop and implement training programs to promote high standards for employee performance in terms of technical proficiency, the environment, safety, productivity, customer focus and ethical behavior. This position contributes to the success of the Company by providing a motivated, well-trained workforce to meet the needs of customers and various stakeholders.
This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
  • Instruct students in Gas Operations disciplines, including Gas Construction, Damage Prevention, Gas Technical Operations, Cathodic Protection, Gas Control, Gas Service, Customer Meter Operations (CMO), safe work practices, procedures, equipment, and regulatory/compliance requirements.
  • Develop, update, and maintain training curricula, learning objectives, course outlines, instructor guides, student guides, tests, training aids, training media, eLearning content, and document control systems.
  • Supervise and conduct training of employees, contractors, and customers, as required, in the skills necessary to perform their jobs safely and effectively.
  • Evaluate trainee performance for qualifications, promotions, title changes, advancements, certifications, and competency requirements, including gas field progression hands-on testing.
  • Design and implement new training programs and continuously improve existing training processes and programs to meet business and operational needs.
  • Coordinate with field personnel, operating organizations, and the Training Effectiveness Committee (TEC) to ensure training aligns with operating practices, lessons learned, new technology, procedures, and emerging initiatives.
  • Visit operating organizations to conduct on-site training, assess training effectiveness, and provide follow-up support to ensure workforce proficiency and readiness.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) by providing technical guidance on equipment, materials, safety practices, operating procedures, and supporting new Gas Organization initiatives.
  • Maintain and utilize LMS/eTrain records, reports, training documentation, and inventories of training materials and resources, ensuring records are accurate and maintained in accordance with requirements.
  • Support operating organizations during emergencies, contingency, off-hour, off-site, and other special training or operational situations, as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with facility, housekeeping, and safety requirements for assigned training areas; mentor and develop instructors; support training certifications; and participate in professional development activities and industry benchmarking.

Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of relevant work experience. or
  • Associate's Degree and 4 years of relevant work experience. or
  • High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of relevant work experience.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Must be knowledgeable in Corporate Environmental and Safety Procedures as well as applicable Gas Specifications, required.
  • Must be operator qualified in multiple disciplines or, if lateral move, able to obtain dual qualification status within 6 months of accepting position, required.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, required.
  • Must have strong presentation skills and the ability to facilitate group activities/training, required.
  • Must be well organized, detail oriented and flexible with the ability to handle classroom instructional responsibilities and special assignments, required.
  • Demonstrated professional demeanor, confidence dealing with all levels of management/union personnel, required.
  • Working knowledge Microsoft Office, required
  • Must have the ability to promote a positive work ethic in support of our Corporate Values, required.
  • Experience with eTrain and The Learning Center (TLC) Portal, preferred.

Physical Demands
  • Perform heavy manual labor, i.e. push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
  • Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday
  • Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
  • Ability to use hand tools and operate heavy machinery, i.e. jackhammers
  • Unload materials from delivery vehicles and deliver equipment and materials to various operating facilities
  • Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
  • Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
