Job description

Position End Date:ย  June 30, 2028

Salary range: ย $71,846 to $115,129 with normal starting salary between $78,872 and $85,897 annually, dependent on relevant education and experience.ย 

Bargaining unit:ย  Vocational

Type of appointment:ย Non-regular Substitute

Schedule:

Given on-call nature of position, schedule and frequency of instruction may vary. Programs are typically ten to twelve weeks in length, however, length of appointment would depend on the type of coverage required. Incumbent would be instructing class of high school students in a variety of different trades. Typical instructional week is Monday to Friday, 6 hours per day and would not exceed 30 hours. Program may be taught on the Kelowna, Penticton, Vernon, Salmon Arm, or high school location within the Okanagan. Initial on-call contract is setup until Jun 30, 2028 but is not a guarantee of work for the entire contract period.

  • The duties and responsibilities of a Vocational Instructor include continuing excellence in one's field, instructionalย and professional duties, professional development and service.
Functions and Duties
  • Instructional duties may include any or all of the following: instructional (teaching assignments); course and program preparation and revision; student contact; student advising; evaluation and marking of student work and other functions related to instruction.ย 
  • Professional duties may include any or all of the following: curriculum development, student registration and pre-registration duties.ย 
  • Professional development is activity intended to promote teaching excellence, subject area competence and technical competence in the area of professional or instructional expertise.ย 
  • Service may include any or all of the following: school visitations; participation on OC committees; attendance at articulation meetings; representing OC at other function; administrative and other duties.
Education and Experience
  • Successful completion of a related apprenticeship program and a Certificate of Apprenticeship with an Interprovincial endorsement.ย 
  • An undergraduate degree and post-secondary teaching experience are preferred; however, applicants with an equivalent combination of teaching and work experience may be considered.ย 
  • An Instructor's Diploma or valid BC Teacher's Certificate appropriate to the instructional assignment is preferred and will be required following appointment in accordance with the Collective Agreement.ย 
  • Six to ten years recent relevant experience.
