Position: USC GEAR UP Lead Success Coach
Location: On-site at USC GU Partner Schools
Schedule: SY 2025-2026 (varies; 5-10 hours per week)
Compensation: $30/hour
Employment Type: 1099 Contractor
Reports to: Program Manager
Who We Are
GEAR UP stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs and is a federally funded grant held by the University of South Carolina. This grant will serve more than 21,868 students in 36 middle schools and 27 high schools in every region of the state, moving the needle in college readiness and preparation across the state. As part of the USC GEAR UP grant, our company will be working with 7th, 8th, and 12th grade students this year in a college advising series designed to promote academic success and raise college awareness.

Job Description
The Lead Success Coach plays a vital role in ensuring smooth delivery of GEAR UP programming. In addition to teaching middle and high school students, the Lead is responsible for coordinating Success Coach schedules, collecting and managing attendance sheets, and providing coverage when a Success Coach is unable to attend a session. This role requires excellent organizational skills, strong communication, and the ability to model professionalism for both students and Success Coaches.
Your key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Deliver engaging college advising lessons using the provided curriculum.
  • Build strong relationships with students to encourage academic success and college awareness.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction to meet diverse needs.
  • Create and manage weekly schedules for Success Coaches at assigned sites.
  • Collect, verify, and submit attendance sheets; maintain accurate and organized records.
  • Serve as first-line substitute to cover sessions when Success Coaches cancel or are absent.
  • Communicate clearly with school staff, administrators, and Success Coaches to support program implementation.
  • Model professionalism, punctuality, and adherence to CAMP policies and procedures.

Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage students in a classroom setting.
  • Familiarity with the college admissions process.
  • Ability to manage schedules and documentation with attention to detail.
  • Reliable transportation to travel between assigned school sites.

Preferred:
  • Experience coordinating or leading peers in a school or program setting.
  • Teaching or tutoring experience with middle or high school students.
  • Familiarity with curriculum planning and instructional design.
