Job description

Summary Description:
Under the direction of the supervisor, work with carpenters, glaziers and other skilled and semiskilled employees in a geographical area of the school system in the maintenance, repair, and construction of buildings, structures and fixtures; and performs work requiring advanced knowledge of the carpentry trade. Work of this class involves responsibility for laying out work details, assigning duties and directing the work of carpenters and other building trades workers in a variety of maintenance, repair, and construction activities. Nature of work requires frequent visits to school facilities to inspect projects at various stages of completion. Assignments are received orally or through written work orders and many include blueprints, construction plans, and specifications.Physical Demands:Ability to lift moderately heavy objects, complete work requiring moderate physical exertion, and carry out required inspection activities.Special Requirements:

Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of standard methods, materials, and tools of carpentry and related building trades; considerable knowledge of the qualities and uses of various materials employed in commercial construction and repair. Ability to read and work from blueprints and sketches; ability to plan, assign, supervise, and inspect the work of subordinates; ability to complete accurate records, including time and material costs. Skill in the use and care of hand and power tools of the carpentry trade. Good communications skills, excellent human relations skills.Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
Education Training Experience:
High School or GED diploma required. Associates degree preferred. Considerable and varied experience in the performance of skilled carpentry work, including experience in a lead or supervisory capacity required. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.Certificate License:Possession of a valid Maryland driver^s license.
