Job description

 

BASIC PURPOSE: Musket Europe SARL is seeking a Senior Sustainability Specialist to lead and manage sustainability compliance, certification, and carbon optimization activities across our European biofuels trading portfolio. This is a high-impact role at the intersection of regulation, trading, and operations, with direct influence on commercial value through carbon intensity (CI) optimization and biofuel credit management.

Based in our Geneva, Switzerland office, you will serve as the subject matter expert on European biofuel regulatory programs and voluntary schemes, owning end-to-end compliance, audit readiness, and sustainability reporting across multiple jurisdictions.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Sustainability Compliance & Certification

  • Lead all ISCC certification activities (EU, PLUS, and applicable voluntary schemes), including audit preparation and execution
  • Act as primary point of contact for external auditors and certification bodies
  • Maintain full compliance with EU RED II/III and country-specific biofuel regulations
  • Ensure proper documentation, traceability, and proof of sustainability (PoS) across supply chains

Regulatory Reporting

  • Lead all regulatory submissions to European authorities (e.g., energy agencies, environmental regulators)
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of volumes, sustainability characteristics, and GHG emissions
  • Monitor regulatory changes and proactively adapt internal processes

Biofuel Credit & Obligation Management

  • Manage Compliance Scheme Obligations (CSOs) and national biofuel mandates (e.g., UK RTFO, Sweden, Germany, Netherlands)
  • Track, optimize, and report biofuel credits / tickets across European programs
  • Develop strategies to optimize value from environmental credits in coordination with trading teams

Mass Balance & Supply Chain Integrity

  • Own and maintain mass balance systems across terminals and supply chains
  • Ensure accurate tracking of feedstocks, intermediates, and finished products
  • Work closely with operations to ensure compliance with chain-of-custody requirements

Inventory Management

  • Manage sustainability-related data and credit inventories within the ETRM system
  • Ensure alignment between physical movements, sustainability attributes, and commercial positions
  • Reconcile discrepancies between operational, trading, and compliance datasets

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5–10+ years of experience in biofuels, sustainability, or environmental commodities
  • Deep expertise in European biofuel regulations (RED II/III, national mandates, voluntary schemes)
  • Strong working knowledge of ISCC certification and audit processes
  • Experience with mass balance accounting and chain-of-custody systems
  • Familiarity with ETRM systems and data reconciliation in trading environments
  • Proven track record managing regulatory reporting and external audits
