What is the difference between Professional Autonomous Vehicle vs Autonomous Vehicle Technician?

AspectProfessional Autonomous VehicleAutonomous Vehicle Technician
CredentialsEngineering degrees, certifications in AI, robotics, or automotive systemsTechnical certifications, automotive repair licenses, specialized training in autonomous systems
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, development centers, testing tracks, manufacturing facilitiesRepair shops, maintenance facilities, field testing sites
Industry UsageDesigning, developing, and testing autonomous vehicle systemsMaintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing autonomous vehicle hardware and software

The Professional Autonomous Vehicle role focuses on designing and developing autonomous systems, requiring advanced engineering credentials. In contrast, Autonomous Vehicle Technicians specialize in maintaining and repairing these vehicles, often with technical certifications. Both roles are essential in the autonomous vehicle industry but differ in responsibilities, work environments, and required skills.

What is a professional autonomous vehicle?

Professional Autonomous Vehicles are self-driving vehicles designed for commercial or industrial purposes, such as transportation, delivery, logistics, or specialized services. Unlike consumer autonomous cars, these vehicles are built to operate in professional environments and may include trucks, shuttles, delivery robots, or industrial machines. They use advanced sensors, artificial intelligence, and connectivity to navigate and perform tasks with minimal or no human intervention. Professional Autonomous Vehicles are transforming various industries by improving efficiency, safety, and reducing operational costs.

What challenges do professionals working with autonomous vehicles face, and how can they prepare for them?

Professionals in autonomous vehicle development often encounter challenges such as rapidly evolving technology, strict safety and regulatory requirements, and the need for seamless integration of hardware and software systems. Adapting to these challenges requires continuous learning, strong collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Staying up-to-date with the latest research and industry standards, as well as participating in cross-functional meetings, can help professionals stay ahead and succeed in this dynamic field.

What skills and qualifications are needed to work with professional autonomous vehicles?

To thrive as an Autonomous Vehicle Engineer, you need a strong background in robotics, computer science, and electrical or mechanical engineering, often supported by a relevant degree or advanced certification. Proficiency in programming languages (such as Python and C++), machine learning frameworks, and simulation tools like ROS (Robot Operating System) and MATLAB is essential. Problem-solving skills, teamwork, and adaptability help engineers innovate and respond to rapidly evolving technology in this field. These skills are critical for developing safe, reliable, and efficient autonomous vehicle systems that meet industry standards and consumer expectations.

Job description

Sales Specialist - Autonomous Commercial Landscaping
Location: Remote (Preferred: Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Northern Georgia)
About Autonomous Solutions (ASI)
For more than 25 years, Autonomous Solutions, Inc. (ASI) has been a global leader in autonomous vehicle technology, delivering driverless solutions across logistics, agriculture, construction, mining, and industrial markets.
Today, ASI is transforming the commercial landscaping industry through autonomous mowing technology. By combining ASI's proven autonomy platform with Scythe's innovative commercial mowing solutions, we're helping landscape contractors improve productivity, address labor shortages, reduce emissions, and redefine how outdoor work gets done.
We're looking for people who are excited to introduce an entirely new category of technology to an established industry. If you enjoy building relationships, educating customers, and selling innovative solutions that solve real business problems, we'd love to talk with you.
About the Role
ASI is seeking a highly motivated Sales Specialist - Autonomous Commercial Landscaping to accelerate the adoption of autonomous commercial mowing throughout the Southeast.
This is a territory-based sales role responsible for owning the complete customer journey-from prospecting and qualifying opportunities through demonstrations, proposals, negotiations, and closing new business.
You'll work directly with commercial landscape companies, municipalities, universities, corporate campuses, and other professional grounds maintenance organizations to introduce autonomous mowing as a competitive advantage.
Success in this role comes from being consultative, technically curious, highly organized, and comfortable helping customers embrace innovative technology.
What You'll Do
  • Own the full sales cycle for your assigned territory, generating new business and growing revenue.
  • Prospect and develop relationships with commercial landscaping organizations and key decision makers.
  • Conduct product demonstrations, site visits, discovery meetings, and presentations.
  • Educate customers on the operational, labor, financial, and sustainability benefits of autonomous mowing.
  • Build trusted advisor relationships with owners, operations leaders, and executive decision makers.
  • Partner closely with Marketing, Product Management, Customer Success, and Operations to ensure exceptional customer experiences.
  • Represent ASI at trade shows, conferences, customer events, and industry associations.
  • Maintain accurate opportunity forecasting and pipeline management using HubSpot CRM.
  • Gather customer feedback and market intelligence to help shape future product development.
  • Achieve and exceed territory sales objectives and revenue targets.
Required Qualifications
  • 2-5 years of successful B2B sales or business development experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and close complex sales opportunities.
  • Experience selling into organizations ranging from approximately $5M to $500M in annual revenue.
  • Strong consultative selling and presentation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Comfortable with cold outreach and business development.
  • Experience managing opportunities within a CRM (HubSpot preferred).
  • Ability to travel throughout the assigned territory.
  • Comfortable towing or operating a truck and trailer for equipment demonstrations.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational and time management skills.
