Productions Manager information

What does a productions manager do?

A Productions Manager oversees the entire production process in manufacturing or media, ensuring that operations run efficiently, safely, and on schedule. They coordinate between different departments, manage staff, allocate resources, and solve problems that arise during production. Additionally, they are responsible for quality control, budgeting, and maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Their role is critical to meeting production goals and maintaining product quality.

What are some common challenges faced by a productions manager, and how can they be addressed?

Productions Managers often encounter challenges such as balancing tight deadlines with limited resources, coordinating between multiple departments, and handling unexpected disruptions like equipment failures or supply chain delays. Effective communication, proactive planning, and strong problem-solving skills are essential for navigating these obstacles. Building strong relationships with team members and suppliers, as well as using project management tools, can help ensure smooth production workflows and minimize downtime.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a productions manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Productions Manager, you need strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills, typically supported by a degree in business, engineering, or a related field, and relevant industry experience. Familiarity with production management software (such as ERP or MRP systems), lean manufacturing principles, and safety certifications is often required. Effective communication, adaptability, and the ability to motivate teams are essential soft skills for this role. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring efficient production processes, meeting deadlines, and maintaining high quality and safety standards.

What is the difference between Productions Manager vs Production Coordinator?

AspectProductions ManagerProduction Coordinator

Required CredentialsExperience in production, often a related degree, industry knowledgeEntry to mid-level experience, organizational skills, relevant certifications
Work EnvironmentLeads production teams, interacts with clients and vendorsSupports production staff, handles administrative tasks
Industry UsageCommon in film, TV, theater, and event productionOften found in similar industries, supporting production workflows

The Productions Manager focuses on overseeing the entire production process, managing teams, budgets, and schedules. In contrast, the Production Coordinator provides logistical support, assisting with scheduling and communication. Both roles require industry experience, but the Productions Manager has broader responsibilities and leadership duties, making it a more senior role within the production team.

About the Role

The Product Manager drives day-to-day execution of iPromote's product roadmap: identifying opportunities, defining requirements, partnering with Engineering and shipping improvements that deliver value for customers and the business.

This role is ideal for someone with 2 to 3 years of product management experience who enjoys digging into problems, translating business needs into clear requirements, and collaborating across teams to deliver measurable results.

What You'll Do
  • Gather, evaluate, and prioritize product enhancements based on customer feedback, product data, business needs, and company strategy
  • Write clear product requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and supporting documentation
  • Partner with Engineering across the full development lifecycle, including planning, backlog refinement, team check-ins, testing, and delivery reviews
  • Support roadmap planning, product launches, feature rollouts, and post-launch evaluation
  • Conduct customer interviews, analyze product usage, and research competitors, industry trends, and emerging technologies
  • Serve as the voice of the customer, balancing user needs, business priorities, and technical constraints
  • Collaborate with Partner Management, Support, Sales, Marketing, and Leadership to define and deliver product improvements
  • Coordinate user acceptance testing and validate new functionality before release
  • Create product documentation, training materials, and internal communications for new features
  • Use AI tools to accelerate research, analysis, documentation, and requirements work, and identify practical opportunities to bring AI and automation into iPromote's products and internal workflows
  • Track product issues, enhancement requests, product performance, and feature adoption
  • Assist with product configuration, process improvements, and other duties as needed
Who You Are
  • Curious and analytical. You ask why, dig into data, and aren't satisfied with surface-level answers.
  • A clear communicator. You can translate between business stakeholders and engineers without losing anything in the middle.
  • Organized and detail-oriented. You keep multiple priorities moving in a fast-paced environment without dropping threads.
  • Collaborative by default. You build trust across teams and know that great products are a team effort.
  • AI-forward. You already use AI tools to work smarter and are excited to find new ways to apply them.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
  • 2 to 3 years of product management or associate product management experience
  • Experience working with software development teams
  • Experience writing user stories, product requirements, or functional specifications
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
  • Comfort using AI tools to improve productivity and decision-making

Preferred

  • Experience in SaaS, AdTech, MarTech, or digital advertising
  • Familiarity with Meta Ads, Google Ads, or other digital advertising platforms
  • Experience with Jira, Azure DevOps, Asana, or similar project management tools
  • Basic understanding of APIs, integrations, and software development concepts
  • Experience analyzing product metrics and customer feedback
Success in This Role

Within the first year, a successful Product Manager will:

  • Deliver high-quality product enhancements aligned with business priorities
  • Build strong partnerships across Engineering and business teams
  • Maintain a well-prioritized product backlog
  • Improve the customer experience through thoughtful product improvements
  • Support successful launches and drive feature adoption
  • Find real opportunities to apply AI and automation across our products and processes
Location & Work Environment
  • Preference is for candidates located on California’s Central Coast who can work a hybrid schedule
  • Fully remote candidates will be considered
  • Willingness to travel periodically (quarterly, semi-annually, or as needed)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation based on experience with a salary range of $70,000 – $100,000 annually
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life insurance and long term disability benefits
  • 4% employer matched 401k plan upon hire
  • Competitive vacation and sick pay along with generous paid holidays and office closure days
