Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Compounding Shift Supervisor will promote and model the company vision and mission. Ensure adequate capacity for resources such as material, equipment, and personnel to meet production planning demands. Monitor waste, equipment downtime, and personnel attendance. Implement process recommendations and equipment modifications to improve process performance and/or safety requirements. Facilitate optimal integration of all human resources in the manufacturing area to effectively meet production budget and operational objectives. Promote good employee relations by supporting and coaching continuous improvement initiatives in the daily operation activities. Establish corrective action plans to eliminate process deviations and documentation errors. Prepare personnel evaluations and take personnel actions for performance improvement, as necessary. Monitor employees by floor presence with real time monitoring of manufacturing activities to assure procedural adherence and provide corrective feedback to employees during operations. Monitor and take actions to maintain/improve metrics such as yields, compliance (FPQ, QE, and human errors), and cycle time.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

Essential Functions

  • Behavior:  Exhibit team player qualities of cooperation and coordination; professional interaction in all business contacts, all day, every day.
  • Attendance:  Present for work when scheduled is a mandatory function. Work hours may extend pass normal business hours based on the workload of the department.
  • Safety: Your compliance and enforcement of all company safety rules, procedures and guidelines is essential. Reporting safety issues is mandatory.
  • Ensures proper training/development of team members.
  • Assign employees to compounding duties and establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Observe start-up procedures; identify problem areas; assist in developing and implementing corrective action.]
  • Inspects products to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Performs activities of workers supervised.
  • Supervises and coordinates activities of compounding technicians engaged in batch/blend processing, weighing and bulk chemical tanks unloading to meet quality, safety, productivity and customer service requirements.
  • Ensures the timely and accurate documentation and closeout of batch records.
  • Recommend hire and discharge, evaluate performance, recommend salary increases and promotions, train and instruct employees. Resolve employee problems; approve, compute, and record employee hours on timecards.
  • Attend daily production meetings to ensure understanding and communication of daily procedures, changes to schedules, current and potential problem areas.
  • Discuss with appropriate department supervisor any discrepancies which occur in the production schedule or process; develop appropriate action.
  • Develops and manages budget and performance objectives; scheduling, hiring, performance evaluations, termination, etc.
  • Investigates and writes incident reports that affect the release of batches.
  • Investigates and writes safety incident reports and closeout in a timely manner.
  • Participates in technical transfer and validation activities affecting the department.
  • Ensures cleanliness and sanitization of compounding area,
  • Interact with Planning and Manufacturing to assure customer service goals are met.
  • Analyzes work methods, collects/ analyze process and productivity data for use in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Comply with cGMPs through adherence of SOPs and company policies relating to quality, safety, housekeeping and cost effectiveness.
  • Recommend supplies to be ordered and at the manager’s direction place orders for Purchase Orders provided.
  • Ability to apply analytical reasoning and root cause analysis to solve problem.
  • Familiarity with automated batch recipe systems
  • Experience with PLC controlled batch and or blend processing operations.
  • Ability to work on any shift and occasional weekend shift if needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge/Education:  Bachelor of Science degree or bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering is preferred. Demonstrated supervisory and administrative skills. Demonstrated leadership and management traits include the ability to motivate people while engendering their respect and support. Proficient with MS Office products. SAP or ERP knowledge preferred. Strong math and calculating skills.

Experience: Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in manufacturing or chemical processing preferred, particularly in the personal care industry. Two (2) years’ supervisory experience required. Demonstrates ability to read, understand, interpret and implement technical writing instructions.

Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids: which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position: Operational knowledge of production equipment; computers, spreadsheet and word processing programs, fax, copier, and other standard office equipment.

License(s)/Certification(s) Required:  Possess a forklift certification or the ability to obtain a certification.
