Role Summary

The Pre-production Quality Engineer will be a cross-functional role that connects the Product Development, Engineering, and Operations organizations to bring new vehicles to life.

In this role, you will partner with Design, Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, Production Control, and Manufacturing and Process Engineering teams. You will serve as the voice of Quality during prototype builds, ensuring that all quality functions are prepared to deliver high-quality vehicles to our customers.

You will be responsible for driving optimization and efficient problem-solving through data analysis, improving quality processes, and helping to establish company quality standards and testing systems that ensure efficiency, reliability, and performance at the vehicle platform level. Responsibilities also include creating documentation to report new launch concerns and proposing solutions to resolve them.

Responsibilities
  • Understand the activities required to support readiness for new model development builds and successful product launches across various vehicle platforms
  • Able to provide activities status, summary, and issue resolution tracking reports
  • Plan, organize, and execute pre-launch build activities
  • The candidate should be able to interact, integrate, and support results across teams in design, manufacturing engineering, supply chain, manufacturing quality, production operations, production control, service, etc.
  • Facilitate ramp management with operations teams, identifying necessary activities and initiating execution and risk mitigation according to New Model Operational Plans
  • Support the operations readiness workstream, ensuring target objectives are met and escalating or developing recovery plans as needed
  • Maintain accountability for shop floor organization, safety, and department 5S standards for the Quality team during prototype builds
  • Serve as a point of contact for the Quality team to identify root causes of technical issues and recommend and implement fixes prior to Design Handover
  • Monitor and manage systematic problems through the operations tracking system (Rivian Concern System)
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, Engineering, or similar field/equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of quality experience in manufacturing or engineering environments
  • Understanding of launch processes from prototype through series production
  • Production Operations Knowledge - Generic understanding of how complex production lines operate including production control, material handling, supply chain, quality, and production team
  • Knowledge of manufacturing validation processes for complex new products spanning multiple engineering teams and manufacturing facilities
  • Understanding of technical documentation, data Management & transformation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills (experience with 8D or similar methodologies)
  • Willingness to travel at least 40% of the time; travel requirements may vary weekly

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range for California Based Applicants: The salary range for this position is $85,600 - $107,000 for California based applicants. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs.

The successful candidate may be eligible for annual performance bonus and equity awards.
