Job description

Hexcel is currently seeking a Quality Manager for our Kent, WA, USA location.  The Quality Manager is a key member of the Site Leadership Team and is responsible for ensuring our products meet or exceed all customer requirements.  This includes providing direction for the Quality strategy, managing Quality Department staff, maintaining compliance to customer, regulatory and industry quality requirements, and ensuring robust and timely corrective action processes are being adhered to.

Summary pay range: $115,842 - $198,586 annual salary.

The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following obligations:

  • Safety: Maintaining a safe work environment and operation. Ensure all members of the quality team are following safety protocols and procedures.

  • Leadership: Provide hands-on leadership and coaching of a large team that spans both hourly and salary, from inspection, through technicians, to supervisors, to engineering.

  • Quality System: Providing leadership and expertise to implement, improve and maintain aerospace quality systems which include AS9100 and Nadcap. Conducting internal and supplier audits to ensure compliance to quality standards. Providing oversight of the document control function for the site. Manage the processes and certification of production employees.

  • Product Conformance: Responsibility for all reports and systems to demonstrate product conformance. Preparing quality plans/manuals on existing and new products; these plans include sampling plans, special customer requirements, etc. to ensure product quality. Reviewing manufacturing documents for compliance to quality requirements; providing oversight of the quality approval of shop order and Manufacturing and Inspection records (M&IR) preparation.

  • Non-Conformance Management: Facilitating/coordinating quality improvement and root-cause corrective action projects as required. Management of the non-conformance processes and ensure timely and effective corrective actions

  • Customer Management: Interfacing with customers to demonstrate compliance with customer quality requirements. Acting as a primary resource in the research and response to customer complaints, rejections, and requests for corrective action to enhance positive customer and supplier relationships in a cooperative environment, including continuous follow-up and interface with customers and/or suppliers on all quality issues. Preparing and presenting detailed and management oriented written and oral reports as required

  • Employee Training: Develop, oversee and support an improved training program to ensure employees are capable and ready for the work required of them.

  • Continuous Improvement: Scoping, organizing, and conducting Kaizen events and other Lean/5S activities. Overseeing/leading Six Sigma projects and activities using the DMAIC process.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university preferably in a field related to science, engineering, economics, or business. Master’s Degree, preferred.  ASQ certification preferred (e.g. CQE - certified quality engineer or CQM - certified quality manager)

  • 5+ years of experience leading AS9100 quality systems in a manufacturing environment.

  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, and demonstrated leadership ability to drive step change improvements in quality performance. 

  • Experience working in a Nadcap environment with composite part production is highly desired.

  • Strong working knowledge of and experience using Six Sigma and Lean tools is preferred.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, take initiative, maintain confidentiality, and meet deadlines is essential. 

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a cross-functional team environment is critical.
