Job description

PRODUCTION PROJECT ENGINEER (STARLINK)

At SpaceX, we're leveraging our experience in building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world's most advanced broadband internet system. Starlink is the world's largest satellite constellation, providing fast, reliable internet to 4M+ users worldwide. We design, build, test, and operate all parts of the system - thousands of satellites, consumer antennae that allow users to connect within minutes of unboxing, and the software that brings it all together. We've only begun to scratch the surface of Starlink's potential global impact, and we are looking to add an experienced Production Project Engineer to help build our presence in Bastrop, TX.

As a member of the construction projects team, you will work with a group of elite engineers across multiple disciplines to design, build, and activate infrastructure for a variety of projects at the Starlink production facility. This is a hands-on role that is responsible for the planning and execution of new facility construction and renovation projects with emphasis on heavy civil and utility components. You will work with construction project managers, facility engineers, designers, vendors, and internal partners/customers to support these goals. You will have the opportunity to drive positive change and own projects from start to finish with the goal of making the SpaceX campus a world-class manufacturing facility. This position is based in Bastrop, TX (Austin Area).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a project team of engineers, consultants, and contractors throughout the engineering, procurement, and construction process
  • Manage the design, development, and issuance of drawings, documentation, and reports for manufacturing line projects
  • Write, negotiate, and manage construction contracts with subcontractors across multiple disciplines from conceptual design through close out and activation
  • Accountable for accurate budgeting and cost forecasting
  • Work as part of a team to develop and manage production strategies to mitigate future production risks and seize emerging opportunities to improve quality, output, safety, and cost
  • Define new business processes and systems for high volume production, including manufacturing execution, inventory management, nonconformance resolution, configuration management, material traceability, process control, and maintenance
  • Coordinate and schedule work with internal SpaceX teams and external general/sub-contractors
  • Assist production/engineering leadership team to identify trends, opportunities, and best practices for optimizing product output, quality enhancements, and cost of manufacturability by spending time on the production floor

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial, mechanical, electrical, or other engineering discipline
  • 1+ years of experience in production engineering, manufacturing, or industrial project management

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Direct field experience with day to day management on a construction site
  • Experience in conceptual design and budgeting
  • Experience with general mechanical, fluids, and heavy hydronics construction
  • Experience in managing the engineering, procurement, and construction process for manufacturing type projects
  • Experience creating and implementing process/design solutions with minimal impact to business operations
  • High volume production experience (electronics, automotive or similar)
  • Competency with CAD programs (AutoCAD, Revit, Siemens NX, BIM/Navisworks  or similar)
  • Experience supporting production start-up and production ramp periods
  • Ability to identify customer needs, gather requirements, and execute independently

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed
  • This role is based in Bastrop, TX and will require you to be onsite. Remote or Hybrid work will not be considered
