Job description

Description
Nelson Builders is seeking an experienced Production Manager to take ownership of residential remodeling projects from initial planning through project completion. This is a leadership-driven field role - you'll manage crews, collaborate with subcontractors and trade partners, and direct the overall flow of each project, staying hands-on with carpentry work as required to keep things on schedule.
You'll handle the daily management of field operations: building schedules, holding the team accountable to quality expectations, and making sure every project runs smoothly from start to finish. Strong leadership sits at the core of this role, backed by solid carpentry expertise and sharp on-site management skills.
Responsibilities
• Lead residential remodeling projects through every phase of construction
• Manage and direct the field crew's daily production
• Coordinate trade partners to protect schedule and quality standards
• Build and maintain project schedules using JobTread
• Conduct regular jobsite visits to oversee progress, quality, and safety
• Uphold safety standards and jobsite compliance across all projects
• Train and mentor carpenters and field staff
• Serve as the primary field leader driving production execution
• Act as a professional point of contact for homeowners throughout each project
• Step into hands-on carpentry work as needed to keep jobs on track
Qualifications
• 5+ years of residential construction experience, with strong leadership responsibility (remodeling background preferred)
• Proven track record managing schedules, people, and multiple projects at once
• Field leadership background (foreman, production manager, or similar)
• Strong hands-on carpentry skills, both finish and rough framing
• Comfortable both leading a team and working in the field day to day
• Clear, effective communication with clients, crews, and trade partners
• Ability to lead with consistency, accountability, and respect
• Sharp attention to detail and a commitment to quality work
• Michigan Builder's License preferred, or willingness to obtain one
