Job Description

You will provide oversight for production on the Slitter, CTL, Embosser, Shipping/Receiving & Warehouse. You will use your skills of management through observation & data analysis and look at all aspects to pinpoint strengths & weaknesses within the processes of the operation, work with involved departments and individuals to determine best practices, implement, and train on correct and safe processes. You will report to the Production Manager, and your other responsibilities will include:

  • Evaluate quality and production metrics for strategic plans & reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards, work instructions and SOP’s; identifying system improvements. 
  • Understands & utilizes logistics and product flow principles to analyze and recommend changes to the warehouse design/layout.
  • Assesses supply costs & identifies areas for cost savings. Monitors expenditures, identifies variances and implements corrective actions.
  • Maintains storage area by organizing floor space; adhering to storage design and safety principles; recommending improvements.
  • Maintains inventory by conducting monthly physical cycle counts; reconciling variances; inputting data for coil inventory.
  • Updates job procedures by participating in educational opportunities & implements procedures that drive bottom line and customer satisfaction improvements. 
  • Determine department priorities, work assignments and methods required to meet required warehouse and/or secondary operations schedules.
  • Determines space requirements and position of shipment in warehouse.
  • Ensure accurate inventories of consumables. 
  • Review staffing and vacations for each of these areas and coordinate coverage with the Production Manager
  • Train new hires and cross train current staff
  • Monitor and assist shipping with having loads staged and appointment times scheduled
  • Monitor and assist receiving to ensure deliveries are unloaded and received timely, rail cars are unloaded, and coils tagged and put in storage locations daily.
Qualifications

As the selected candidate, you will have the following experience:

  • 3 to 5 years in a plant environment.
  • HS Diploma or equivalent required. College degree a plus.
  •  Process control experience a plus.
  •  Steel, slitting, coil coating, and other steel related experience strongly preferred
  •  Strong mechanical aptitude
  •  Ability to train, motivate, and direct production employees.
  •  Ability to work long & irregular hours in response to customer demands and production matters.
  • Willing and able to work an afternoon or night shift position
  • Excellent communication & leadership abilities
