Production Manager

The Production Manager provides operational leadership across multiple departments, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing. This role directs supervisors and production teams, manages resources, and partners closely with engineering, maintenance, and quality to hit daily, weekly, and long-term performance targets. The Production Manager plays a key role in workforce development, cross-department coordination, capacity planning, and continuous improvement to support company growth and customer satisfaction.

Job Duties:

  1. Multi-Department Leadership & Workforce Management

  • Provide direct leadership to production supervisors and indirect leadership to staff across all assigned departments.

  • Ensure staffing levels, training plans, and resource allocation support production demands.

  • Monitor performance, coach supervisors, and support corrective action processes when needed.

  • Establish expectations for safety, quality, productivity, and professionalism and hold teams accountable to those standards.

  • Lead regular team meetings, communicate priorities clearly, and maintain strong presence on the production floor.

  • Participate in hiring decisions for hourly employees.

  • Develop succession planning, technical development, and skill-growth opportunities for team members.

  1. Operational Planning & Production Execution

  • Translate production goals into executable daily/weekly schedules across all assigned departments.

  • Coordinate workloads between departments to optimize flow, reduce bottlenecks, and meet delivery expectations.

  • Analyze labor, equipment capacity, and scheduling constraints to support operational planning.

  • Work closely with Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance to resolve issues that impact throughput or product integrity.

  • Ensure all required production documentation, process forms, and reports are completed accurately and on time.

  • Oversee adherence to standard work, operating procedures, and quality specifications.

  1. Safety, Compliance & Culture

  • Ensure all staff receive proper training related to safety, equipment operation, and emergency procedures.

  • Drive a safety-first mindset, investigate incidents, and implement corrective actions and preventive measures.

  • Enforce adherence to company policies, OSHA guidelines, and internal safety protocols.

  • Partner with HR on employee relations issues and participate in investigations as needed.

  1. Continuous Improvement & Process Optimization

  • Champion lean manufacturing, 5S, standard work improvement, and waste-reduction initiatives across departments.

  • Lead cross-functional problem-solving efforts related to quality defects, process inefficiencies, equipment downtime, or safety concerns.

  • Identify opportunities for automation, workflow improvements, and better utilization of labor and machinery.

  • Track relevant KPIs and drive performance toward targets in safety, quality, output, cost, and delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in supervisory role. Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, operation, or business preferred.

  • Experience leading teams or projects is strongly desired but not required

  • Lean manufacturing and continuous process improvement experience (preferred)

  • 10+ years production experience, 5+ years supervisory experience

  • Self-starter. Able to work with minimal supervision

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Ability to coordinate and monitor a high level or activity as demonstrated under a variety of conditions and restraints

  • Ability to analyze and solve problems and comprehend complex instructions with schematic drawings

  • Relates well to others, including as appropriate, peers, supervisors, subordinates, customers and suppliers

  • Responds appropriately to unexpected and/or continuing situations which develop in the work environment

  • Ability to work collaboratively with others

  • Effective written and verbal communication

  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • Must be ale to climb a ladder to access equipment
