Job Description

1. Job Overview

In a few sentences, describe the main objective, purpose and scope of the role.

Responsible to set up and oversee mold machine operations to ensure efficiency and quality, occasionally serving as back up in the absence of a Shift Supervisor.

2. Job Dimensions

3. Accountabilities

List in priority order the main accountabilities/deliverables of the role. These should be statements of the primary responsibilities of the incumbent.

3.1. Key Functions

  • Set up machines for operation, change material and color to meet production schedules.
  • Startup machines in a timely manner and monitor quality at start up.
  • Make appropriate adjustments to machines to maintain efficient production levels and document appropriately.
  • Perform mold repairs, insert changes, and preventative maintenance as required.
  • Review production schedules and ensure machines are running production to meet customer demands.
  • Respond promptly to alarms and/or requests for assistance to correct machine malfunctions and/or Packer/Handler problems.
  • Respond promptly to Quality Assurance Techs by adjusting machines to maintain appropriate sizes and standards.
  • Coordinate with Quality Assurance and Maintenance Departments concerning machine operations and malfunctions.
  • Inspect scrap to prevent any usable product from being ground and record scrap numbers.

3.2. Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe work environment including following safety rules such as proper Lockout/Tagout procedures.
  • Complete Line Clearance documentation and procedure after completion of each job.
  • Oversee proper packaging procedures.
  • Keep the floor stocked with materials required for production (fitments/handles/labels/tape, etc.)
  • Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained.
  • Assist with Material Handling as needed.
  • Ensure a smooth transition between shifts.
  • Various other duties as assigned.

5. Qualifications/Requirements

5.1 Formal Qualifications and Experience

  • High school education / GED equivalent.
  • Prior plastic injection molding experience is highlyh preferred.
  • Possess or obtain a technical understanding of processes and procedures.

5.2 Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Behaviours

  • Ability to work weekends and overtime as needed.
  • Ability to effectively perform the Packer/Handler job to assist with relief breaks.
  • Effectively work independently with littl supervision; self-starter, display ability to work and deliver results in a fast-paced, performance driven, environment.
  • Ability to work as a cross-functional team member with good communication skills both verbal and written.

6. Physical Requirements

  • Standing and Walking: Extended periods (Up to 12 hours per shift) on concrete floors in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Up to 50lbs safely with the frequency of at least 10 times per shift, and 25lbs regularly.
  • Pushing and Pulling: Carts, bins, and pallets using approximately 75lbs of force with the frequency of at least 10 times per shift.
  • Bending, Stooping, Kneeling: As needed to access materials and operate equipment in a regular frequency.
  • Climbing and Reaching: Using ladders or steps and reaching overhead or below waist level to load/unload materials with occassional frequency.
  • Mobility and Coordination: safely navigate equipment, production areas and storage zones with good balance and coordination. Occasional need to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Ability to view objects in the distance, near, and peripheral as well as depth perception.
  • Environmental Exposure: Work involves exposure to heat and humidity. May also be exposed to plastic, ink and cleaning chemical fumes. Moderate to high noise levels typical of injection molding and printing operations.
  • Frequent exposure to production floor; required use of PPE including but not limited to: Bump Cap, Safety Eyewear or Prescription Safety Eyewear, Safety Shoes, Hair/beard nets, and Hearing Protection.
  • Frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
