Injection Molding Process Engineer

Summary

Responsible for overseeing and improving molding processes to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production within the plant. This role supports daily manufacturing operations by troubleshooting process issues, optimizing machine performance, reducing scrap, and improving overall productivity.

Assist in leading a small production support team consisting of molding technicians and molding operators, providing direction, training, and technical support to ensure production goals and quality standards are consistently achieved. This position works closely with production, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives and maintain stable manufacturing processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include leading & assisting with the following:

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to maintain efficient workflow by monitoring process stages, equipment performance, personnel, and resource utilization. Identify and address issues proactively, facilitate corrective actions, and promote collaboration across departments to ensure orders move through each stage in the most productive and efficient manner.
  • Manage the planning of molding operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products to meet the scheduled due dates and quality standards.
  • Provide engineering expertise as needed to internal and external customers.
  • Support process optimization (cycle times, material usage, efficiency).
  • Assist in troubleshooting molding defects (short shots, flash, sink, warpage).
  • Ensure molds and equipment are properly maintained.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Support mold trials, sampling, and validation.
  • Develop and establish robust injection molding processes for new and existing tools.
  • Oversees machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
  • Troubleshoots equipment issues to achieve resolution to prevent impact to the day-to-day operations.
  • Support the creation and revision of operating procedures and work instructions while ensuring employees follow company standards and best practices.
  • Monitor and manage KPIs (key performance indicators) for the department to ensure the health of the department and team members.
  • Completes production projects as assigned which are designed to improve the overall production process.
  • Provide cross-functional support and backup leadership to the molding management team to ensure uninterrupted operations and consistent team performance.
  • Assist with scheduling and staffing needs within the molding department.
  • Provides coaching, mentoring, and training as needed to assigned personnel.
  • Resolves worker grievances or submits unsettled grievances to Human Resources Manager for action.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area. (5S requirement)
  • Support the company’s policies and procedures including Quality Systems, Continuous Improvement and Safety Programs
  • Participate in Quality assurance process by auditing and validating existing part design and conformance to established engineering standards.
  • Weekend work and travel may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Assist in managing plant employees and perform supervisory duties in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.Responsibilities include providing support for interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; time and attendance management, coaching, training, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees with the support of Human Resources.
