We are adding an Engineering Manager to our environmental engineering group in Eden Prairie, MN. This position is responsible for leading the technical advancement of the industrial controls group as directed by BU Management. This position is responsible for leading the technical advancement of the industrial controls group as directed by BU Management. Develop technical tools to create efficiencies and consistency across the BU and with clients. Ensure staff are keeping up with technology and regularly attends training courses. Train and mentor staff to adhere to best practices in the industry.

Technical Focus

  • Establishes, maintains, and communicates engineering standards
  • Ability to identify and evolve the company’s and business unit’s technical competencies with industry trend and stay up to date with the current and emerging technologies
  • Provides technical program and guidance within the business unit
  • Implements effective and innovative technological solutions
  • Researches and proposes new technical vision, architectural solutions, and new technologies
  • Provides quality program leadership and audits
  • Go-to expert for BU in one or more technical area(s)
  • Serves as the technical specialist for the organization in the application of advanced concepts, principles, and methods in an assigned area
  • Proactively plans, schedules, and/or leads the preparation of technical deliverables for multiple major projects
  • Leads a corporate community of practice to seek continuous improvement
  • Serves as a technical consultant on multiple projects to provide technical advice and ensures adherence to engineering standards
  • Demonstrates a sense of responsibility in balancing technical craftsmanship with financial and schedule performance
  • Keeps informed of new methods and developments affecting the BU, and recommends new practices or changes
  • Demonstrates a high level of conformance to the proposal by focusing on labor, equipment, and subcontractor scope and associated budget estimate
  • Mentors other BU employees as directed by BU leadership
  • Leads aspects of BU’s quality plan
  • Assists in the client coordination of major technical testing and performance portions of projects

Business/Operations Focus

  • Provides leadership on strategic BU initiatives which lead to improvement in financial performance and operational effectiveness
  • Analyzes risk related to proposals, projects, and accounts. Assists the BU in identifying business risk
  • Mentors the BU resource pool in the course of performing the job function
  • Sets direction at the service level
  • Consistently provides input in decision-making at the BU level
  • QA/QC check of major strategic proposals
  • Supports the analysis of contract risk and the refinement of agreeable Terms and Conditions by interfacing with WM legal counsel
  • Demonstrates advanced/superior knowledge of BST and associated financial metrics related to efficiency, productivity, and profitability

Sales / Business Development Focus

  • Cultivates strategic relationships into trusting partnership with repeat business
  • Negotiates critical relationship issues with client upper management in conjunction with BU leadership
  • Can lead highly complex proposals with labor from multiple BUs, system work, and subcontracts
  • Manages a wide range of relationships with customers, channel partners, contractors, and engineering firms
  • Communicates BU strategy to customers and channel partners
  • Engages existing major project/account customers to solicit WM team performance feedback and act as the voice of the customer
  • Presents at regional and national conferences
  • Translate customer needs into scope definition, cost estimate, and milestones for moderate to complex proposals
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills presenting qualifications and proposal plans directly to customers
  • Provides pre-proposal guidance to customer on scope, or execution planning
  • Account management focused on strengthening relationships and increasing opportunity
  • Develops new opportunities with existing customers, supports opportunities with new customers
  • Assists/Coordinates with BU Manager(s) in developing yearly sales plans.
  • Works with BU on Salesforce company requirements and proposal generation

  • Manages the technical portfolio of moderate and complex projects with multiple clients
