Job description

The Division Vice President, Business Unit Manager is responsible for overall profit and loss and business performance of the Rotron-PDT Business Unit (BU). This P&L leader will develop and execute the business unit's Strategic Plan with an emphasis on top-line growth, operational excellence, new product development, customer and market expansion, and strategic acquisitions.

The Business Unit Manager will be fully accountable for the business P&L, including commercial and operational performance objectives, leading a team of 7-10 direct reports (with total headcount of 420+), and being responsible for sites in Woodstock, NY, El Cajon, CA, Goleta, CA, and Reynosa, Mexico. The ideal candidate will be an inspirational, hands-on, and transformative change agent with solid business instincts and a genuine passion for aerospace and defense.

Reporting Structure

This position will report directly to the Vice President & General Manager of the AMETEK Aerospace & Defense division. 
What You Will Do in the Role

  • Ensure that financial goals (revenue, profit, working capital) are consistently achieved
  • Build a culture of excellence by being visible and approachable in order to inspire teams to achieve business targets
  • Develop and apply a strong Sales and market expansion strategy:
    • Expand the core business into new markets, capitalizing on available opportunities
    • Develop the global sales and go-to-market strategy, analyzing new geographic opportunities and executing strong plans for emerging markets
    • Negotiate complex long-term agreements with key customers
    • Actively and aggressively pursue key opportunities while nurturing high-level relationships with key customers and market influencers
  • Ensure an effective new product development process:
    • Translate the customer and market requirements to formulate a strong product roadmap
    • Accelerate new product introduction to enable additional market capture
    • Align new product development with the business's strategic plan, prioritizing the right products at the right time
  • Enhance operational excellence and efficiency:
    • Pursue continuous improvement, aiming for "better" and not settling
    • Achieve meaningful cost reduction and enhance productivity through Lean enterprise, Six Sigma, operational excellence Kaizens, and other efficiency initiatives
    • Foster a process-oriented approach that encourages creativity rather than stifling it
  • Build, develop, and lead a high performing team:
    • Structure and lead a team of 420+ full-time employees through 7-10 direct reports, fostering motivation, engagement, and accountability, and earning followership
    • Hire and retain top talent; developing the team and a winning culture that delivers growth
    • Strategically scale the team for future growth, focusing on long-term development, and implementing succession planning efforts to prepare for leadership transitions

What You Will Bring to the Role:

  • Bachelor's degree is required, with Engineering disciplines (Mechanical or Electrical) strongly preferred
  • Master's Degree or MBA preferred
  • "Hands on" progressive operations leadership experience in an engineered products manufacturing environment
  • Minimum 5 years leading a full (Commercial, Engineering/R&D, and Operations) or partial P&L in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing organization, ideally with multi-site operations
  • Proven ability to grow sales and expand profitability over a multiple year period
  • Demonstrate strong ownership, personal responsibility, engagement, and entrepreneurial spirit to thrive in a lean and autonomous meritocracy; drive to do more, work through obstacles and not settle
  • Aerospace & Defense industry experience strongly preferred
  • Communicate openly and confidently, challenging the status quo. Exhibit maturity and executive presence when interacting with senior-level AMETEK leaders and customers
  • Exemplify the highest integrity; promote ethical behavior throughout AMETEK
