PURPOSE OF POSTION


As a development engineer at Press-Seal Corporation, this roll will be dynamic in nature, ultimately contributing skills sets in a dual role within the organization. This individual will conceptualize, design, validate and manage new products from conception through production implementation. Assignments will be broad in nature, requiring initiative, originality, ingenuity and excellent problem-solving skills. Knowledge in the selection of various materials and processes in a manufacturing setting will be required. This individual will prepare machinery and equipment layouts, plan workflows, conduct statistical production studies and analyze production costs to meet the goals of Press-Seal Corporation.


As a part of the product development team, the engineer will design and develop new sealing products for the underground infrastructure, products for the automotive, medical, rail and transit industries. The engineer will be responsible to design /or assist with the development of rubber and plastic injection molds, rubber and plastic extrusion dies and other various tools and fixtures. The engineer will manage all projects from conception through full production implementation while following our policies and procedures as outlined with a cross-functional team.

As we focus our designs towards improved manufacturability, this individual will also design manufacturing systems to increase production volume or efficiencies. The engineer will conduct research into the feasibility, design, operation, or performance of mechanisms, components, or systems, such as welding equipment, reconfigurable robots, or man-machine interactions. The engineer will collaborate with production personnel and other departments to gather information and draft reports, and improve equipment, processes, and products. The engineer will troubleshoot, analyze, identify, evaluate, propose, implement, and document engineering solutions to improve FTY and efficiencies as required. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 


  • Effectively manage multiple projects at the same time. 
  • Design and develop new and innovative products and manufacturing processes as required. 
  • Provide technical solution to support engineering, manufacturing, sales, and customer issues. 
  • Administer product testing that produces complete and accurate data with published analyses and conclusions. 
  • Implement continuous improvement systems and processes for productivity, safety, cost, quality, and waste reduction. 
  • Create and maintain product specifications for current products.
  • Suggest revision to methods of operation, material handling, or equipment layout. 
  • Interpret engineering drawings, schematic diagrams or formulas, and confer with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards. 
  • Recommend changes to production standards in order to achieve the best quality within the limits of the equipment capabilities. 
  • Develop the capabilities of machine and production schedules. 
  • Prepare charts, graphs, and diagrams to illustrate workflow, routing, floor layouts, how materials are handles, and how machines are used. 
  • Compile and evaluate statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products to assist in process improvement activities. 
  • Review production schedules, engineering specifications, process flows, and other information to understand methods that are applies and actives that take place in manufacturing and services. 
  • Provide recommendations and revisions to new and/or existing parts, products, and processes by analyzing study time, motion, methods, and speed involved in maintenance, production, and other operations to improve on standards. 
  • Enact quality control procedure to resolve production problems or minimize costs. 
  • Design control systems to coordinate activities and production planning in order to ensure products meet quality standards.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE


  • Bachelor of Engineering preferred, Engineering Technology accepted. 
  • 5-7 year background in product design, utilizing 2D/3D software. 
  • 3-5 year background in process develop and/or in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Rubber/Plastic processing or manufacturing background. 
  • Managing processes with SPC. 
  • ISO9001, ASTM
