Job description

Location: Wichita, KS

Schedule: Monday – Friday (Daytime hours with schedule flexibility)

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented, collaborative, and compassionate Psychological Technician to join our team in Wichita, KS. In this role, you will be responsible for providing accurate and timely psychological assessment results in close collaboration with licensed psychologists.

Utilizing both strong interpersonal and data management skills, you will administer and score computerized and paper-based psychological test batteries for children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. You will work within our Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) network, partnering collaboratively with patients, families, internal care teams, and external providers (such as educators).

Job Duties & ResponsibilitiesTest Administration & Patient Engagement
  • Direct Testing: Administer, hand-score, and record results for paper and computerized test batteries following strict standardized procedures.

  • Patient Care: Create a calming, supportive atmosphere to relieve patient anxiety and build a positive evaluation experience. Explain testing procedures clearly to patients of all ages.

  • Accommodations & Observation: Assist patients with reading or marking test forms when needed (e.g., due to visual impairments, reading difficulties, or medication effects). Meticulously observe and record patient behavior, attitude, and notable remarks for the supervising psychologist.

Scoring, Data Management & Billing
  • Data Processing: Key test data into clinical software and scan screening materials for computer scoring and profile generation.

  • Accuracy & Manuals: Consult and apply test manuals appropriately to ensure flawless scoring and data interpretation. Double-check all scoring for accuracy and completeness.

  • Prompt Delivery: Promptly deliver completed, scored testing packets to supervising psychologists to support timely clinical evaluations.

  • Assessment Billing: Apply appropriate billing codes for assessment services provided, participating in ongoing training to maintain coding proficiency.

Inventory, Operations & Administration
  • Testing Supplies & Vendor Relations: Order testing supplies, computer scoring reports, and test updates as directed by supervision. Maintain working relationships with testing companies and software providers.

  • Program Administrative Support: Assist with running clinical reports in collaboration with the Psychological Assessment Lead Clinician, and complete quarterly time and cost estimates.

  • Professional Development: Study and practice new testing instruments as they are introduced, and periodically review test administration and scoring protocols with your supervisor.

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field of behavioral sciences, or equivalently qualified by work experience, or a combination of work experience in the human services field and education
  •  Minimum Qualifications: Possess demonstrated interpersonal skills, ability to work with a wide variety of individuals with behavioral health needs served by a CCBHC, and ability to react effectively in a wide variety of human service situations. Preferred experience working directly with behavioral health populations.
  • Must have good listening, verbal, written communication, and organizational skills
  • Must have good interpersonal skills including capacity to convey warmth and friendliness, as well as assertiveness behaviors
  • Must have the ability to take initiative and use independent judgment to carry out tasks and responsibilities; work independently and as a productive member of a team to develop a therapeutic rapport with diverse individuals
  • Must have an ability to understand the developmental needs of children, adolescents, adults, and older adults
  • Must be able to observe patient demeanor and non-verbal communication for assessment purposes
  • Must be proficient at math, basic keyboarding/word-processing skills/database and spreadsheet management
  • Must have sufficient aptitude to demonstrate training capability with software used for test scoring and reasonably provide accuracy in test scoring
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods at a computer
  • Must have physical mobility to retrieve materials from file cabinets, move within office to score tests, and carry out the demands of psychological assessment support
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have valid Kansas driver’s license
  • Must be able to pass Kansas Bureau of Investigation Screen, Central Registry Screen, and DCF (Kansas Dept. for Children & Families, formerly SRS) background check
  • Completion of required trainings upon hire
  • Preferred lived experience of navigating mental health system to reduce care barriers (e.g., maintain appointments and complete stages, financial counselor coordination)
