Product Testing Analyst information

What does a product testing analyst do?

A Product Testing Analyst is responsible for evaluating new and existing products to ensure they meet quality, safety, and performance standards. They design and execute tests, document results, and identify areas for improvement. Product Testing Analysts work closely with product development teams to address issues and ensure that products are reliable before they reach customers. Their work helps companies deliver high-quality products and maintain customer satisfaction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a product testing analyst?

To thrive as a Product Testing Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a background in quality assurance or a related field, often supported by a relevant degree or certification. Familiarity with testing tools such as Selenium, JIRA, and test management systems, as well as understanding of industry standards, is typically required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and the capacity to collaborate across teams help you stand out in this role. These skills and qualities ensure thorough product evaluation, effective issue resolution, and the delivery of high-quality products to customers.

What are some common challenges faced by product testing analysts, and how can they effectively address them?

Product Testing Analysts often encounter challenges such as tight deadlines, rapidly changing product requirements, and coordinating with cross-functional teams. To address these, it's important to maintain clear communication with developers and product managers, stay organized with detailed test plans, and prioritize tasks based on risk and impact. Utilizing automation tools where possible can also help streamline repetitive testing tasks, allowing more focus on complex scenarios. Building strong relationships with team members ensures that issues are identified early and resolved efficiently.

What is the difference between Product Testing Analyst vs Quality Assurance Tester?

Comparison Search IntentHigh overlap in testing roles, focus on product qualityFocus on ensuring quality standards are met

The Product Testing Analyst and Quality Assurance Tester roles both focus on evaluating products for quality, but the Product Testing Analyst often involves more analysis, data interpretation, and collaboration with development teams. The QA Tester typically performs manual or automated tests to identify defects. Both roles are essential in ensuring product excellence, with overlapping skills and environments.

How do I become a product testing analyst?

To become a product testing analyst, candidates typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, with some roles preferring a bachelor's degree in a related field such as marketing, engineering, or consumer sciences. Relevant skills include attention to detail, strong communication, and familiarity with testing procedures and tools. Gaining experience through internships or entry-level positions can also improve prospects in this field.

Is product testing analyst a legitimate job?

A product testing analyst is a legitimate role involving evaluating products for quality, safety, and functionality. It often requires attention to detail, knowledge of testing procedures, and sometimes certifications or training. This job is commonly found in manufacturing, technology, and consumer goods industries.

What companies will pay me to test products?

Product Testing Analysts can find paid testing opportunities through companies that conduct consumer product testing, market research firms, and online survey platforms. These companies often pay for product feedback, usability testing, and reviews, sometimes requiring specific skills or certifications, and may offer flexible schedules. Examples include market research firms, product testing websites, and companies that run focus groups or beta testing programs.

We provide our global teams with the resources needed to achieve individual career goals while helping to take science a step beyond. Whether our customers are accelerating life sciences research, solving complex analytical challenges, improving patient diagnostics and therapies, or increasing productivity in their laboratories, we are here to support them.
DESCRIPTION:
Join our team at Thermo Fisher Scientific, where you'll contribute to innovation in scientific instrumentation and solutions. As Reliability Product Approval Engineer, you will collaborate closely with R&D development teams, test technicians, and cross-functional partners to define, execute, and continuously improve reliability programs for cold storage and ultra-low temperature (ULT) products.
You will play a critical role in embedding reliability into the New Product Development (NPD) process by driving structured risk identification, verification planning, and failure analysis. Your work will directly influence product robustness, regulatory readiness, customer satisfaction, and long-term field performance by ensuring reliability risks are identified early and mitigated effectively.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Reliability Program Development & Execution
  • Develop, document, and execute comprehensive reliability plans aligned with product requirements, program milestones, and regulatory expectations.
  • Collaborate with R&D engineers and test technicians to define test strategies, protocols, and acceptance criteria for cold storage products.
  • Support verification and validation testing by ensuring appropriate reliability coverage, stress conditions, and data collection.

Risk Management & Failure Analysis
  • Lead and facilitate Design FMEA (DFMEA) activities and contribute to broader product risk management efforts.
  • Analyze failures observed during verification testing and from field performance data, identifying root causes and driving corrective actions.
  • Apply Physics of Failure (PoF) principles to anticipate degradation mechanisms in mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration systems.

Requirements & Traceability
  • Partner closely with Product Management, Product Engineering, Quality, and Regulatory teams to develop and maintain product requirements traceability from customer needs through verification evidence.
  • Support Product Approval activities by ensuring traceable linkage between requirements, tests, results, and conclusions.

Standardization & Process Improvement
  • Create and maintain standardized reliability methods, test procedures, and design guidance to enable repeatable, high-quality evaluations.
  • Develop and document Engineering Test Procedures (ETPs) for both standard and novel reliability test methods.
  • Champion Lean, PPI, and continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, reduce variability, and strengthen product robustness.

Collaboration & Technical Leadership
  • Provide reliability expertise to cross-functional project teams and influence design decisions through data-driven insights.
  • Mentor engineers and technicians in reliability tools, test methods, and analytical techniques.
  • Foster a strong culture of safety, quality, and disciplined engineering practice.
  • Travel: Up to 10% domestic travel.

REQUIREMENTS:
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline
  • Advanced coursework in Reliability Engineering or professional reliability certification preferred

Experience
  • 5+ years of experience performing reliability engineering, product approval, or verification testing for complex electromechanical systems
  • 3+ years of experience supporting design and development of mechanical or electromechanical products
  • Experience with HVAC/R, refrigeration, or thermal systems strongly preferred
