Position Summary:
Help shape how Product Operations drives product delivery, decision-making, and operational consistency across the portfolio. In this role, you will partner with product managers and cross-functional teams to support feature execution, strengthen governance, and improve how work moves through the product lifecycle. You will also help define and apply practical AI standards that improve productivity, quality, and decision-making. This role is based in Belfast, ME or Boston, MA with a minimum of one day per week in office. This role reports to the Product Operations Manager.
About the Team:
The Product Operations team supports product delivery by improving coordination, decision-making, and execution across the product lifecycle. The team partners closely with product management, product analytics, engineering, and other cross-functional teams to help move work from planning through launch. The team also helps establish clear operating practices, measure outcomes, and support the use of AI tools in day-to-day work. The team uses product planning, analytics, and collaboration tools to support efficient and consistent execution.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Partner with product managers to support feature delivery from idea through general availability, surfacing risks, trends, and portfolio insights to inform decision-making.
  • Support alpha and beta planning by reviewing test design, challenging assumptions, and helping ensure features are measured against clear success criteria.
  • Analyze portfolio data to identify risks, tradeoffs, and opportunities, and communicate recommendations that support product prioritization.
  • Coordinate cross-team dependencies and support adherence to product development timelines and operating cadences.
  • Hold product managers and product analytics partners accountable for measuring business outcomes and user outcomes, not only adoption metrics.
  • Establish and maintain AI best practices for Product Operations, including how AI tools are used for analysis, delivery, and decision support.
  • Coach product managers and cross-functional partners on responsible and effective AI use, including when AI can improve speed and where human review is needed.
  • Support readiness and release activities for AI-enabled product features by helping validate use cases, assess risk, and prepare customer-facing materials.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows through automation and AI-enabled tools and help drive adoption of practical solutions that reduce manual work.
  • Use AI tools to summarize information, draft analysis, and compare options more efficiently so you can spend more time validating decisions and improving the quality of product execution.

Additional Job Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying recurring issues and sharing insights that improve team processes.
  • Provide consultative guidance that helps reduce ambiguity and improve clarity around roles, data, and decision rights.
  • Support preparation of presentations, status updates, and decision materials for product and leadership stakeholders.
  • Assist with special projects that improve product operating practices or support broader team priorities.
  • Help document workflows, standards, and best practices for Product Operations.
  • Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and cross-functional working groups as needed.

Expected Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of professional experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience in product management, product operations, or a related field.
  • Experience with AI tools such as Claude, GPT, Codex, or similar tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to use AI and automation tools in daily work to improve productivity and decision-making.
  • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and agile methodologies.
  • Experience working in healthcare technology is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in virtual care, front-end revenue cycle, or patient portal/patient experience work is preferred.
  • Proven ability to influence partners across functions and levels without direct authority.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills with the ability to translate complex information into clear actions.
  • Comfort working in ambiguous, fast-changing environments and adapting priorities as needed.
  • Self-directed approach to work with a focus on follow-through and accountability.
  • Travel may be required for customer engagements, team offsites, and industry events as needed.

Expected Compensation
The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates. Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
