Job description

Job Title: Engineering Intern
Location: Reno, NV
Department: Maintenance
Reports To: Plant Manager / Maintenance Manager
Position Summary:
The Engineering Intern will support the maintenance team in improving manufacturing processes, maintaining equipment efficiency, and ensuring product quality within an Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) production environment. This internship provides hands on experience in industrial manufacturing, process optimization, inventory, and safety practices.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in monitoring and optimizing EPS production processes, including pre-expansion, molding, and cutting operations
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of machinery and equipment issues to minimize production downtime
  • Locate, review, and interpret equipment manuals, technical documentation, and schematics to support maintenance and operational efficiency
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives, including lean manufacturing, waste reduction, and efficiency enhancements
  • Collect, track, and analyze computer maintenance management system (CMMS) data using internal systems to identify trends and recommend actionable improvements
  • Assist in managing inventory of spare parts and maintenance supplies to ensure operational continuity
  • Support administrative and system-related tasks, including data entry, work order tracking, and documentation within company software systems
  • Assist in the development, scheduling, and documentation of preventive maintenance activities
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams on process optimization and ongoing projects
  • Help ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards
  • Prepare reports, technical documentation, and presentations to support operational and engineering activities

Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering principles
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work in a team oriented, fast paced environment
  • Effective communication and organizational skills

Preferred Skills:
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or Six Sigma concepts
  • Experience with data analysis tools or software
  • Interest in plastics or materials manufacturing

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, and work in a manufacturing plant environment
  • May require lifting up to 25 lbs and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

Duration & Compensation:
  • Internship duration: Semester Based. 40 hours a week. Monday through Friday.
  • Compensation: $20 an hour
