Position Description
At a Glance
Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the DPC Team in Reno, NV.Under general supervision of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Design Engineer will support the manufacturing engineers through equipment assembly/setup/maintenance/documentation and manufacturing documentation creation. Mechanical Design Engineer is an entry level position that provides technical assistance to the Manufacturing Engineers and R&D Engineers to develop practical solutions for manufacture, test, or improve company products. The Mechanical Design Engineer will work closely with design and manufacturing teams to develop, test and finalize product documentation and bill of material (BOM) for existing and newly developed products using CAD and product lifecycle management (PLM) software. This position will support sustaining engineering functions creating engineering change orders (ECO) and reviewing documentation and BOMs for completeness and accuracy.
The Mechanical Design Engineer, as with all members of the Server Technology Team, is expected to promote a positive attitude, demonstrate initiative, professionalism, personal awareness, integrity, and exercise confidentiality.
What Will You Do?
โ€ข Design sheet metal enclosures around electromechanical assemblies using CAD software and applying DFM principles.
โ€ข Using CAD and PLM software, create, review and release design drawings ranging from sheet metal fabrication, product assembly, cabling/wiring, and part specification.
โ€ข Within the PLM system, create, modify, and review finished good BOMs.
โ€ข Generate product subassembly BOMs and documentation packages that will be used for prototyping, testing, and product release.
โ€ข Execute ECO on first article and production parts. Change orders will consist of BOMs and design drawing updates.
โ€ข Research and resolve issues associated to PLM and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) databases.
โ€ข Assist with designing and testing manufacturing fixtures to ease product assembly.
โ€ข Assist with developing document methods for process improvement, control and accuracy.
โ€ข Perform all tasks in a timely manner and proactively communicate schedule changes with peers and mangers.
โ€ข Promote positive company user relations by projecting a courteous, helpful attitude and assisting employees when appropriate.
โ€ข Display original thinking and creativity; Meet challenges with resourcefulness; Generate suggestions for improving work; Develop innovative approaches and ideas.

Qualifications
Required Skills
Education:
Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University with emphasis in Engineering, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
โ€ข Computer proficient with knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/Outlook).
โ€ข Self-management skills including planning, organizing, and coordinating tasks.
โ€ข Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to provide information across multiple groups in the Company including Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality and Purchasing.
โ€ข Strong attention to detail and organization/planning skills and the ability to work independently.

โ€ข Experience with product design using CAD. Autodesk Suite (Inventor, Vault, and AutoCAD).
โ€ข Experience with executing Engineering Change Orders and understands document revision processes.
โ€ข Experience with mechanical product testing and reporting.
โ€ข Knowledge of mechanical drawing standards.
โ€ข Project management skills include planning, organizing, meeting facilitation and coordinating tasks.
โ€ข 2D and 3D CAD Design experience.
โ€ข Familiarity of ISO 9000 standards and audit process.
