Job description

Our client is seeking a Director of Product Strategy & Merchandising to lead the vision, strategy, and execution of its growing product portfolio. This is a highly visible leadership opportunity with a rapidly growing consumer lifestyle brand that partners with major retailers, ecommerce channels, independent retailers, and the corporate gifting market.


Entering an exciting phase of growth, the company is investing in product innovation, category expansion, and merchandising excellence. Reporting to executive leadership, this individual will define the product roadmap, identify new growth opportunities, build channel-specific product strategies, and develop a scalable product organization.


This role is in office, based in Richmond, VA.


What You Will Do


  • Develop and execute the company's product and merchandising strategy, aligning the portfolio with long-term business objectives.
  • Lead innovation by identifying consumer trends, emerging categories, and market opportunities that drive sustainable growth.
  • Build channel-specific product strategies across national retail, ecommerce, Amazon, independent retailers, and corporate gifting.
  • Own assortment planning, SKU optimization, product lifecycle management, and category performance to maximize growth and profitability.
  • Partner with Sales, Marketing, Finance, Operations, and Supply Chain to successfully bring new products to market.
  • Use consumer insights, market data, and financial performance to make informed product and merchandising decisions.
  • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing product team while establishing scalable processes and best practices.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the executive leadership team, helping shape the future direction of the business.


What We're Looking For


  • 10+ years of experience leading product management, merchandising, category management, product development, or brand strategy within a consumer products company.
  • Demonstrated success building product strategies that drive category growth through innovation, assortment planning, and commercialization.
  • Experience supporting multiple sales channels, including retail, ecommerce, Amazon, and wholesale.
  • Strong business and financial acumen, including forecasting, pricing strategy, margin management, and product profitability.
  • Background within consumer goods, lifestyle products, housewares, home décor, accessories, gift, or similar categories.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, influence executive stakeholders, and develop high-performing organizations.
