The Mechanical R&D Engineer works in a fast-paced lab environment as part of a team designing, developing and testing concepts for new product introduction.

What You'll Do
  • Work in cross functional teams to transform conceptual ideas into fully commercializable new products.
  • Apply mechanical engineering principles to develop products, components, and systems that involve heating (e.g., Convection & radiant environmental heaters, process heaters, vaporizers, etc.)
  • Review technical specifications; prepare & review drawings, bills of materials, and other engineering documentation.
  • Balance innovation with regulatory, technical, and commercial constraints to ensure product viability and success.
  • Develop and execute test plans to understand technical concepts and validate new designs.
  • Perform troubleshooting, resolution analysis on a variety of heating products and associated equipment.
  • Provide technical support to Sales, Engineering, Production, Purchasing, and Quality departments.
  • Review updated codes and standards and assess impact on product design.
  • Provide enhancement and continuous improvement to existing products and processes.
  • Maintain awareness of state-of-the-art technologies. Keep Thermon abreast of the latest industry trends and recommend responsive actions.
What You Bring
  • 5+ years of hands on experience in Mechanical Engineering role.
  • Proficient in the use of 3D CAD design software (preferably SolidWorks and/or Inventor).
  • Fundamental working knowledge of heating equipment and heat transfer fundamentals.
  • Experience in new product development using a structured stage-gate process from concept through commercialization.
  • Strong understanding of project management principles, risk assessment, and go/no-go decision-making.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to apply scientific principles to address complex challenges.
  • Familiarity and experience with certification bodies and standards - CSA, UL, IEC.
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Bonus Points For
  • Hands-on experience with heat transfer and process simulation tools such as HTRI, Aspen, or Unilab.
  • Working knowledge of ASME pressure vessel codes and standards, with the ability to apply them in design and analysis.
  • Direct experience designing, specifying, or testing electric heating equipment.
  • Familiarity with electric control systems and power electronics.
  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation or progress toward certification.
