Job description

S&T PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT CHEMIST I, EXPERIENCED
PPG Industries, Inc. seeks an S&T Product Development Chemist I, Experienced in Oak Creek, WI responsible for developing new liquid coatings products as well as testing coatings against multiple specifications and customer requirements for the company's industrial coatings products. Specific duties include: (i) working with customers to understand their needs and how to incorporate their needs into new liquid coatings products to be developed by the company; (ii) leading experimental chemistry projects and working with contractors and chemistry technicians; (iii) coordinating project activities with multiple groups, including Manufacturing, Quality Assurance (QA), Technical Service, and Commercial teams; (iv) analyzing and interpreting experimental chemistry results to contribute to the development of new and improved liquid coatings products; (v) troubleshooting or correcting problem batches and resolving technical issues reported by customer; and (vi) reformulating existing chemistry-based industrial coatings products to meet cost reduction or property enhancement goals.
Must have an associate's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Chemistry plus five (5) years of coatings formulation experience.
Must have any experience with each of the following: (i) acting as a liaison in communication between various communities of jargon including, scientific, quality, process engineering, manufacturing, corporate, customer, and supply chain; (ii) ISO standards or other organizational standard test methods including reading comprehension and ability to complete testing in accordance with the standard; (iii) reading, performing, and writing standard operating procedures including following, updating and reviewing changes with subject matter experts; (iv) development steps of a new product/process including conceptualization, scale ups, performance testing, and feedback loop verification after implementation; and (v) analytical test methods including basic comprehension of principals and how to obtain useful data in a defective product/process situation.
Must know: (i) particle stability and principles; (ii) DMAIC methodology; (iii) JMP/Minitab or equivalent; (iv) standards of recordkeeping including laboratory notebooks, standard operating procedures, and product validation; and (v) troubleshooting simple machine malfunctions and replacing or changing parts for mixers, spray equipment, and test equipment.
Experience can be concurrent.
Must be available outside of normally scheduled working hours to support manufacturing facilities and customer accounts.
