Position Overview

The Electrical Engineering Manager- Hearing Devices leads a global development team to design, build, & deliver the next generation of hearing aid products. Works alongside industry experts, audiologists, product marketing, industrial design, design quality assurance, and global manufacturing partners to take products from idea through to production. Maintains close surveillance of product development to ensure designs and test results match the technological specifications and end use requirements. Evaluates feasibility of design, manufacturing, profitability, competitiveness, marketing potential, etc. and makes recommendations. 


Responsibilities

Personnel:

Assists Vice President Global Research and Development in attracting and hiring top engineering talent

Provides work direction to engineers

Train and mentor staff in product development processes

Coach engineers to maximize KPI scores


Key Component and Product Development:  

Product specification review and communication with cross-functional team to set development plan

Translation of product requirements into actionable technical development tasks

Lead the technical engineering, design, and development

Assist development team in working through any roadblocks with deliverables

Monitors resource use by participating in project sign offs at critical phase gates

Communication window for global technical development teams 


Project Engineering:

Lead team on multiple projects through key component and product development processes

Follow all phase gate deliverables and ensure completion to company standards

Daily interaction with global product marketing, engineering, supplier, manufacturing, and quality teams

Execution of design to specification, manage team to meet schedule and cost requirements


Production support:  

Review quality and test data, perform product sample reviews and make design decisions, support value-add / value-engineer opportunities for cost and manufacturing efficiency

Train global teams on design and functional requirements 


Requirements

Education:

A bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited institution in Engineering

Advanced degree in engineering a plus


Experience:

5 years of successful and demonstratable technical leadership

5 years of project engineering or project management in complex electrical hardware and system development

10 years of professional experience in electrical hardware design

Proficiency reading and understanding patents

Well-qualified candidates will possess working knowledge of hearing aid architecture and design


Other Requirements:

Ability and willingness to travel both internationally and domestically (approximately 4x/year), communicate with global teams during non-business hours

Ability to work well with numerous diverse groups and individuals

Ability to lead and inspire a team of engineers

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
