Job Opportunity - Mechanical Product Design Engineer

Location : Boston, MA

Duration : Full time

Job Description

This role offers the opportunity to design and develop innovative mechanical products from concept through prototype, with a strong focus on camera- and sensor-based systems. You will create cutting-edge designs that integrate cameras, sensors, and supporting mechanical structures, emphasizing thermal management, optics, and robust performance. Working in a fast-paced environment, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams while independently driving projects forward and ensuring designs meet high standards of quality, reliability, and manufacturability.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop innovative mechanical products from initial concept through prototype, with a focus on camera-focused and sensor-focused solutions.
  • Create detailed 3D models and drawings using SolidWorks to support product development and documentation.
  • Apply thermal management principles and perform thermal simulations to ensure reliable operation of camera and sensor systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical and software engineers, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical, electrical, and software components.
  • Develop, document, and manage mechanical design requirements to ensure products meet or exceed performance, reliability, and quality standards.
  • Conduct design validation activities, including testing, tolerance stack-ups, and design reviews, to confirm design intent and performance.
  • Perform root cause analysis and structured problem-solving to resolve design and product issues.
  • Incorporate design for manufacturability and assembly principles into all designs to support efficient and cost-effective production.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, and test reports.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision to drive projects forward, manage priorities, and meet project deadlines.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical product design, preferably with a focus on camera and sensor-based systems.
  • Strong mechanical engineering and mechanical design background with proven product design experience, including design for manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling, assemblies, and detailed mechanical drawings.
  • Experience with thermal simulations and thermal management in product design.
  • Hands-on experience with tolerance stack-ups and their application to mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience with testing, structured problem-solving, and root cause analysis.
  • Strong understanding of production design principles, including design for manufacturability and assembly.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of projects, and deliver high-quality designs with minimal supervision.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
