Do you have what it takes to work for us?

The Senior Product Design Engineer is the technical lead responsible for driving the successful design, development, validation, and commercialization of innovative plumbing products across the Danco and LSP portfolios. Reporting to the Director of Quality & Engineering, this role leads cross-functional product development initiatives from concept through production launch while partnering closely with Product Management, Quality, Sourcing, Operations, Manufacturing, Compliance and Sales.

As a senior individual contributor, this position leads through technical expertise and influence rather than direct authority. The Senior Product Design Engineer establishes project direction, aligns stakeholders, removes obstacles, and ensures projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality, manufacturability, and customer satisfaction.

Key Duties for the role:

Product Development Leadership (35%)

  • Lead the engineering design and development of new products and product enhancements from concept through commercialization.
  • Translate customer needs, market trends, and business objectives into innovative engineering solutions.
  • Own technical execution of multiple concurrent new product development projects.
  • Ensure designs meet customer requirements, manufacturing capabilities, regulatory requirements, and cost objectives.
  • Lead engineering design reviews and technical decision-making throughout the product lifecycle.

Cross-Functional Project Leadership (25%)

  • Lead cross-functional project teams consisting of Product Management, Sourcing, Quality, Manufacturing, Compliance, Sales, and Supply Chain.
  • Develop project plans, milestones, technical deliverables, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate project activities across multiple functional teams and external suppliers.
  • Influence priorities and drive accountability without direct reporting authority.
  • Remove barriers and facilitate timely decisions to keep projects on schedule.

Technical Engineering & Innovation (20%)

  • Develop CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, tolerance analyses, and bills of material.
  • Design and evaluate prototypes, testing plans, and product validation activities.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA), and Value Engineering principles throughout development.
  • Research emerging materials, manufacturing technologies, and competitive products to improve product performance and reduce costs.
  • Assist in administering the PLM system (ECO/ECR and related workflows).
  • Evaluate engineering alternatives using sound technical and economic analysis.

Supplier & Manufacturing Collaboration (10%)

  • Partner with domestic and international suppliers throughout product development.
  • Support tooling reviews, production qualification, first article inspections, and pilot builds.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Sourcing to resolve technical issues affecting product performance or manufacturability.
  • Travel to supplier facilities as required to support product launches and technical problem-solving.
  • Engineering Excellence & Continuous Improvement (10%)
  • Develop engineering standards, best practices, and documentation processes.
  • Mentor Product Engineers and provide technical guidance across engineering projects.
  • Improve engineering workflows that reduce development cycle time and improve product quality.
  • Present technical recommendations and project updates to senior leadership to support business decisions.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical product design and development.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex product development projects.
  • Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software.
  • Experience with engineering analysis tools including tolerance stack-up, DFMEA, PPAP, and Design for Manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including injection molding, stamping, machining, die casting, elastomers, and assembly.
  • Experience working with domestic and international suppliers.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively from engineering teams to executive leadership.
  • Proven ability to lead projects and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.

Preferred

  • Experience in plumbing products, building products, hardware, consumer products, or industrial manufacturing.
  • Experience with plumbing codes, NSF, cUPC, low-lead regulations, or similar industry standards.
  • Experience using FEA analysis and rapid prototyping technologies.
  • PMP certification or formal project management experience.
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification.
  • Experience with ERP and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
