Producer Manager information

What is a producer manager?

A Producer Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing and coordinating the work of producers within an organization, often in industries like media, entertainment, insurance, or agriculture. Their duties include managing production schedules, budgets, and resources, as well as ensuring that projects meet quality standards and deadlines. Producer Managers also serve as a liaison between producers and other departments, helping to resolve issues and facilitate communication. They play a crucial role in optimizing workflow and achieving project goals.

How does a producer manager typically collaborate with creative and technical teams during a project's lifecycle?

A Producer Manager acts as a central coordinator, frequently bridging communication between creative and technical teams throughout each project phase. They facilitate meetings, set clear expectations, and ensure all departments are aligned on goals, timelines, and deliverables. This role often requires balancing creative vision with practical constraints, addressing challenges such as resource allocation or shifting priorities. By maintaining strong relationships and transparent communication, Producer Managers help keep projects on track and foster a collaborative, productive work environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a producer manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Producer Manager, you need strong project management abilities, leadership skills, and experience in production workflows, often supported by a degree in business, media, or a related field. Familiarity with project management software (like Asana or Trello), budgeting tools, and production scheduling systems is typically required. Outstanding communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills help a Producer Manager coordinate teams and drive projects to completion. These skills ensure that productions run smoothly, stay within budget, and meet deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.

Job description

About the role

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and hands-on Senior Producer (temp) to manage the end-to-end creation of bar-raising creative content for one of our major tech client's Global Studio team, in partnership with Monks. This hybrid role blends senior production, creative project management, and print production / traffic management into a single owner who brings creative work to life from briefing and intake through proofing, delivery, and retrospective.

Working closely with the Executive Producer, this person owns project timelines and budgets in execution, serves as a primary day-to-day contact for customers and internal teams, and is the key project driver across creative, production, vendor, and partner teams. The role spans cross-channel creative and carries responsibility for print mechanical proofing, color management, and final approvals with suppliers and vendors.

Beyond delivering individual projects, this person owns the one of the main workstreams end to end, not just executing the work, but building up the workstream itself and partnering with the client's team in an embedded capacity, which is precisely where identifying and creating new tools and new ways of working comes to life.

Critically, this person is not only an excellent operator but an innovator: they are expected to create new ways of working and develop new tools, mechanisms, and solutions that raise the bar on how we deliver and ultimately best service our client's customer. The ideal candidate thrives in continuous planning and innovation, leads with confidence while respecting differing viewpoints, communicates expertly across all levels, and stays solutions-driven in the face of ambiguity.

  • It's a temporary assignment with the potential for extension and future full-time conversion based on business needs and performance.
  • Candidates must be available to work Pacific Time business hours.
  • Ability to travel approximately 1-2 times per quarter to the client's U.S. West Coast headquarters and supplier/vendor locations
Key ResponsibilitiesProduction & Project Leadership
  •     Manage multiple parallel projects, partnering with designers, writers, business leaders, external agencies, and vendors, and act as the key project driver with internal stakeholders.
  •     Own the end-to-end process and mechanisms for content creation, defining prioritization criteria, schedules, stages and gates, and stakeholders' roles and responsibilities.
  •     Support the creation of estimates, scoping, and project setup, then manage budgets and timelines through execution, ensuring milestones and dependencies are tracked and delivery stays on course.
  •     Partner with creative and production teams to develop and execute the production plan and solutions, ensuring the team focuses on priority projects and understands the project vision, objectives, and requirements.
  •     Track production burn weekly, flagging risks to the Executive Producer and Global Studio team early, with proposed solutions and new paths to delivery.
  •     Identify scope changes and lead change orders or paths to savings, partnering commercially with the Executive Producer.
  •     Ensure project resources are fully utilized, raising awareness when gaps or free periods are identified.
  •     Maintain the CST, asset trackers, and project documentation, keeping all data accurate, current, and reporting-ready, and provide clear project detail, data, and narratives for the P0 on each completed project.
Customer & Stakeholder Management
  •     Serve as the day-to-day customer contact and main point of contact between brand managers, agency partners, and internal stakeholders, building trusted relationships that extend beyond individual projects.
  •     Translate customer needs into clear scopes and briefs, advising on key resource requirements, and partner with brand managers to understand campaign objectives, target audience, and brand guidelines.
  •     Collect and synthesize input from stakeholders, share it out to the creative team, and communicate project status, changing priorities, timelines, and deliverables across teams, flagging and troubleshooting issues.
  •     Create, maintain, and disseminate project information to stakeholders and senior management, providing regular updates that highlight milestones, achievements, and challenges.
  •     Remove roadblocks and disambiguate situations that impede designers and other contributors.
  •     Proactively set retrospective conversations with customers to invite open dialogue about ways of working, wins, and future improvements.
Print Production, Traffic & Quality Control
  •     Act as point person for all brief intake and prioritization across resources, managing asset trackers and team tasks through completion of each campaign.
  •     Manage the print production lifecycle from file preparation to final delivery, overseeing pre-press activities such as proofing, color management, and final approvals.
  •     Provide quality control and review of all deliverables before customer handoff, ensuring brand compliance and high-quality creative assets.
  •     Monitor print production quality, troubleshoot issues as they arise, and draft specifications around materials, papers, inks, adhesives, print decoration, and finishing techniques.
  •     Provide on-site guidance and support with suppliers and vendors (quarterly travel required), and maintain an organized library of print assets and production records.
Innovation & New Ways of Working
  •     Create new ways of working: designing and improving processes, mechanisms, and standards that raise the bar and best service our client's customer.
  •     Identify, evaluate, and develop new tools, automations, and AI-enabled solutions that amplify creativity and efficiency across the production lifecycle.
  •     Apply the latest production tools to improve delivery, and champion their adoption across creative, production, and partner teams.
  •     Uphold standards and best-practice methods while continuously seeking better, faster, and more cost-effective paths to delivery.
Qualifications
  •     7+ years producing creative content, ideally with global brands, with proven experience managing budgets, timelines, and resourcing across multiple projects.
  •     Strong understanding of cross-channel creative production across digital, static, and video; digital production experience required.
  •     Proven print production expertise - as a Print Production Specialist, Packaging Producer, Traffic Manager, or similar role - including the full print lifecycle, materials and finishing techniques, and the ability to draft specifications. Agency experience preferred.
  •     Extraordinary eye for color accuracy, quality standards, and brand compliance, with strong attention to detail.
  •     Experience as a client-facing lead, building relationships that extend beyond individual projects.
  •     Demonstrated ability to create new ways of working and develop new tools, mechanisms, and AI/automation solutions in a production context.
  •     Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage all levels of contributors and manage multiple competing priorities.
  •     Proficiency in project management tools and software to track progress and timelines.
  •     Ability to work independently and proactively, taking ownership of projects and driving them to completion.
  •     Calm and effective under tight, changing deadlines, across teams and time zones.
  •     Ability to travel ~2x per quarter, both domestically and internationally, to on-site supplier and vendor locations.
