Job Description
Job Summary: As a Smart Shop Exempt Department Manager, you will oversee department operations which could include perishable departments, center store, Inventory Flow, Receiving, and Shelf Edge, with a specific emphasis in your area of expertise. (I.e. produce, market, front end.)
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
  • Management:

    • Majority of the time spent using independent judgment in making employment-related and business decisions, or effectively recommend such decisions including but not limited to product and department related strategies, hiring, promoting, disciplining, suspending, discharging, rewarding or otherwise engage in resolving Partner-related matters

    • Manages people, staffing, and training for area of focus

    • Review and analyze financial and performance reports, identifies and follows up on opportunities / issues

    • Manages Operational Review Team (ORT) related audits and findings

    • Conducts detailed store and/or department walks

    • Maintains work instructions for area of focus

    • Monitors and reports on inventory estimates and Direct Store Delivery (DSD) accounting

    • Utilizes ownership mentality in your department and total store.

    • Create weekly schedules to meet the needs of the business

    • Operate in a cross functional environment

    • Ensure proper order and inventory levels within your department

    • Orders product and performs quality control

    • Participates in the store leadership team to ensure coordination, integration and alignment of total store plans

    • Supports Leadership and Department teams with a total store mindset

  • Sales / Strategy:

    • Manages operations in area of focus; monitors craftsmanship, shrink, safety, and quality assurance

    • Creates actionable plans and follows up on "What Ifs"

    • Serves as the Brand Promise Champion

  • Customer Service:

    • Focuses on Partner / customer relationships, collaboration, communication, and education

    • Models / cultivates superior customer service across store departments

    • Identifies and develops future talent

    • Models / promotes active engagement with the Community

  • Area of Focus / Department

    • Inventory Flow

    • Manages and responsible for center store inventory workflow, including receiving and shelf edge

    • Assists in weekly execution of center store merchandiser planner

    • Organizes and plans using the daily forecast in relation to inventory work flow

    • Leads the inventory flow team to maximize productivity and efficiencies

  • Front End

    • Manages and responsible for overall front end operations

    • Ensure customer service with efficient throughput

    • Ensure all front end operating procedures are followed

    • Manages a large team efficiently

  • Market

    • Manages and responsible for overall meat market operations

    • Ensure food safety compliance and Partner safety requirements are followed

    • Has a strong knowledge of meat cutting equipment, specialty meat items, and meat cooking techniques

  • Produce / Bakery

    • Manages and responsible for overall produce and bakery operations

    • Plans and executes production plans and merchandising programs to drive sales in produce and bakery

    • Ensures food safety compliance and Partner safety requirements are followed

  • Floor (total store)

    • Ensures a proper store close, evening replenishment, and appropriate store conditions are maintained

    • Accountable for proper level, organization and purchasing of all supplies for Total Store

    • Accountable for all safety programs and regulations.

    • Accountable for sanitation and pest control programs

    • Manages and responsible for Store Recovery Team
