Position: Project Manager - Commercial Division

Reports to: Project Manager and Division Vice President


ย The Assistant Project Manager supports the Project Manager in the planning, coordination, execution, and financial management of commercial concrete construction projects. This position is responsible for assisting with project documentation, scheduling, subcontract administration, procurement, cost tracking, and communication with field personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.


The APM is expected to develop the technical, financial, and leadership skills necessary to advance into a Project Manager role while helping ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with company quality standards.


Key Responsibilities


Contract Review & Project Administration

  • Assist in reviewing contracts, specifications, and project scopes.
  • Help ensure project requirements are understood and communicated to field personnel.
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation.
  • Assist with project startup documentation.

Project Planning & Coordination

  • Assist with quantity takeoffs using PlanSwift or similar software.
  • Support project scheduling and coordination with the Project Manager.
  • Track project milestones and upcoming deadlines.
  • Coordinate procurement of materials and equipment.
  • Help manage workload according to contracted scopes of work.

Financial Management

  • Assist with project budgeting and cost tracking.
  • Process purchase orders, subcontract agreements, and change order documentation.
  • Track material quantities and costs.
  • Assist with monthly project cost reviews.
  • Support billing and pay application preparation.

Documentation & Project Controls

  • Review and process: shop drawings, submittals, requests for information (RFIs), change orders, an maintain accurate project documentation.
  • Document scope changes for potential additional costs.
  • Ensure project records remain current and organized.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Maintain professional communication with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and General Contractors.
  • Attend project meetings with the Project Manager.
  • Coordinate closely with Superintendents to support successful field operations.
  • Help resolve project issues through proactive communication.

Procurement & Subcontract Management

  • Assist in preparing and issuing subcontract agreements.
  • Coordinate supplier pricing and material deliveries.
  • Track subcontractor documentation and compliance requirements.
  • Support buyout activities and vendor coordination.

Safety & Quality

  • Promote Doggett's safety culture on every project.
  • Participate in weekly jobsite safety audits alongside Project Managers or Superintendents.
  • Ensure project documentation related to safety is complete and accurate.
  • Support quality control efforts by tracking inspections and project requirements.

Professional Development

  • Develop knowledge of: concrete construction methods, post-tension construction, project financial management, scheduling, estimating, contract administration.
  • Demonstrate initiative toward advancement into a Project Manager role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.ย 
  • Associate degree with relevant construction experience considered.ย 
  • 1-3 years of construction experience preferred.ย 
  • Commercial concrete construction experience is a plus.ย 
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.ย 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.ย 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.ย 
  • Strong attention to detail.ย 
  • Proficiency with: Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project (preferred), PlanSwift, Procore, and Bluebeam.
