What is a Procreate artist?

A Procreate artist is someone who creates digital artwork using the Procreate app, an industry-leading drawing and painting application available on the iPad. These artists use Procreate’s extensive set of brushes, layering features, and intuitive interface to produce illustrations, animations, and graphic designs. Procreate artists may work as freelancers, illustrators, animators, or designers, and their work can range from concept art to finished digital paintings. Many professionals and hobbyists alike choose Procreate for its versatility and powerful creative tools.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Procreate artist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Procreate Artist, you need strong digital illustration skills, a solid understanding of design principles, and a portfolio showcasing your work. Familiarity with the Procreate app, digital drawing tablets, and related graphic software is essential, and formal art training or certifications can be beneficial. Creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to take feedback make someone stand out in this position. These skills and qualities ensure artists can produce high-quality, client-satisfying digital artwork efficiently in a competitive creative industry.

What are some common challenges digital artists face when using Procreate in a professional setting?

Digital artists working with Procreate often encounter challenges such as managing large file sizes, organizing complex layer structures, and ensuring color accuracy across different devices. In a collaborative environment, sharing editable files and maintaining consistent workflows can also be tricky, since Procreate's native format may not be compatible with all industry-standard software. To overcome these challenges, many professionals establish clear file-naming conventions, use cloud storage for version control, and regularly export work to formats like PSD for cross-platform collaboration.

Job description

Our client, a Southern California-based women's contemporary label celebrated for its whimsical prints, effortless silhouettes, and laid-back, sun-soaked take on ready-to-wear, is looking for a Knitwear Designer to join their growing team. This role is hybrid, based in Downtown Los Angeles, with up to 2 remote days per week (minimum 3 days in-office).

This is a design-driven role for a fully fashioned knitwear specialist who understands the contemporary womenswear market inside and out. You'll partner closely with the Design Director and cross-functional teams to shape the knitwear and cut-and-sew offering each season, owning everything from yarn selection and concept development through tech packs, fittings, and production hand-off.

What you will be doing

  • Partnering with the Design Director to develop knitwear and cut-and-sew styles each season, researching trends, shapes, and yarn concepts to build a cohesive collection
  • Sketching and CADing all styles, maintaining sketch revisions and up-to-date linesheets and design boards for weekly reviews and presentations
  • Creating detailed tech packs with accurate BOMs and communicating garment construction clearly to Tech Design and overseas factories
  • Participating in weekly fittings, capturing feedback, and updating sketches, tech packs, and BOMs accordingly
  • Maintaining organized seasonal binders and sample racks alongside PD and RM teams to ensure development efficiency and traceability

What they are looking for

  • 8+ years of fully fashioned knitwear design experience in women's contemporary RTW
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Fashion Design (knitwear specialization preferred) or related field
  • Strong technical grasp of yarns, stitches, gauges, and fully fashioned construction, including their relationship to costing
  • Highly proficient in Adobe Illustrator for sketching/CAD (Procreate a plus), with solid Photoshop, MS Office, and Google Suite skills
  • Experience communicating directly with overseas vendors/factories, with excellent organization, follow-through, and composure under fast-paced, shifting priorities
