Job description

SunWest Builders believes that each employee’s success contributes to the overall success of this organization.This description is intended to outline primary job duties, qualifications and scope, but not to limit the employee nor the organization to adjust the work identified to ensure the success of our endeavors.

Summary of Position

The Superintendent oversees all phases of a construction project from initial planning to completion and closeout.This position will supervise all field and trade personnel as required to complete the project on schedule successfully and within budget; while administering good construction safety practices with all on-site activities. The Superintendent has the authority to remove employees as well as subcontractors from the job site for non‑compliance of SunWest Builder’s company policies. The Superintendent works in partnership with the Project Manager to attain complete customer satisfaction and to meet or exceed SunWest Builders standard of quality and excellence. This position reports directly to the President of the company.

SunWest Builders believes that a successful Superintendent must exhibit the following Responsibilities
  • Promote job site safety, enforce safe work practices, and rectify job site hazards immediately as per company safety policies.
  • Compliance with OSHA and company safety rules and regulations.
  • Update plans regularly to incorporate all changes.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the contract documents, specifications, and addenda.
  • Coordinate, supervise and direct all field and trade personnel.
  • Knowledge of sub-contract scope of work.
  • Ability to read blueprints and architectural details.
  • Good Knowledge in all construction trades.
  • Plan, implement, and review quality control procedures and practices daily as outlined in the company Quality Control Management Plan.
  • Develop and manage the master project schedule and 3-week look-ahead schedule with support and input from the Project Manager.
  • Manage on-site labor costs to make material purchases associated with the project in coordination with the project manager.
  • Communicate project status weekly to the Project Manager, Director of Field Operations, and the President of the company.
  • Establish and maintain a strong working relationship with building officials and inspectors.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly job site, job trailer, and company vehicle.
  • Knowledgeable of applicable building and ADA codes.
  • Adhere to the Superintendent closeout responsibilities as per company close out procedures.
  • Perform monthly safety reviews for all company Laborers, Carpenters, and Foreman on the job site.

  • Always have a “safety first and for all” thought process.
  • Displays strong written and oral communication skills and employs effective listening skills.
  • Excellent Math & Carpentry Skills
  • Creates and maintains a positive job site culture with company employees and subcontractors.
  • Demonstrates competency in all computer programs as defined necessary by management. (Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, and Outlook.)
  • Utilizes strong organizational skills and has the ability to multi-task.
  • Analyzes problems and makes decisions in a timely manner based on objectives, risk implications, and costs.
Certificates & Licenses
  • Current First Aid/CPR certificate
  • 10 hour OSHA Training
  • Certification in Sustainable Practices – encouraged but not mandatory.
Education and Experience
  • College degree preferred but not mandatory.
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) required
  • Minimum 7 years Field construction experience.

Job Conditions

This position generally requires, on average, a 9-hour workday.Each project will define and dictate the actual workweek, workdays, and working hours.It is the expectation of SunWest Builders that each employee will satisfy the unique workday requirements for each project as necessary.

Theposition is also primarily a supervisory role, but will at times, require heavy lifting and possibly the use of heavy equipment.
